Dearl959Graduates: It is understandable that the editors of the FOLIO should have selected 'motionn as the theme for 1959. The idea of' motion characterizes so much of modern life and is so dear to modern youth. But does motion, or change, constitute progress? At the beginning of the century, many thinkers believed that social movement was always in the direction of progress Theywereconvincedthatthroughscienceand invention mankind despite temporary detours moved irresistibly in a forward direction Today as we con sider thexnotion of Jet airplanes automatic machinery, rocketry and the atomic mushroom cloud we are far less certain that change can be equated to progress If you remember the FOLIO in the years to come it will not be because it dealt with abstract concepts of motion or thelmotion of the spheres or thexnovements of nations it will be because of your own progress through Jamaica in the years '57 '58 59 We hope that the FOLIO will stir your memories and recall nostalgic thoughts of' warm friendships and the beginnings of new interests and new vistas When you look back on your years at Jamaica may they represent the initiation of your motion upward and onward to a creative life in a better world Lou1sA Schuker ru.A'QJ PRI NC I PAL CABINET MEETING Chalrmen and other advlsors meet m the Prmcxpals Office to dns cuss matters of School busmess 1 , , , . . . .
