X XX t I . ' V fix :xiii-.' n - -we of N X sl QL G V22 Gl u.--, 4 55- , ff, e V M ' NIO X , N 4 x 7 ' ' X , X X PX Introduction Did you ever throw a pebble into a pond and watch the 4-ver-widening circles appear on the surface of the water? ln the same manner, each of us, upon entering Alarnaica High School. plunges into the whirlpool of school life and activities. In --yer-widening circles our lives touch and influence each othcr's. Therefore, it is very appropriate that we have chosen circles,' as the theme nf this year! FOLIO. Nfr. lN'cbster, in his dictionary, says that a circle is a plane hqure bounded by a single line. every point of which is equally distant from the point at the center of the figure. This is an exact technical definition, but we know that a great many beautiful things in this world are composed of circles or contain them in some way--ffamily circles, coins. a circus, dishes, the sun and moon. faces, clocks. a halo. a wedding ring, the world itself. All these things, diverse as they may be. bring to mind a circle. Going around in circles will always bring one back to his original starting point. In the same manner. years from now, our minds will revert to the four years spent at Jamaica High School. Wle came to Jamaica fresh from the ele- mentary and junior high school routine, and suddenly everything was s0 new and different. As we progressed through the first three years, we were given a chance to develop our own talents, while Constantly broadening our minds in new and different fields of knowledge. As seniors we began to realize our place in the world. We realized that throughout the four years at jamaica High School we had been prepared by our teachers and advisers to face life on our own. Now, without their guidance we shall not go around in circles, unable to focus on our rightful place in the world. but will face our responsibilities with hope, ambition. and the will to make the rnost of the best in us for othersf' We, the students of jamaica High School. can be likened to the radii of a circle, No matter how far away we may go from the building itself, we will always remember not only the factual information, but the frequent lessons in practical philosophy, as well. When, in the future. you happen to turn the pages of this FOLIO, may you have only the most pleasant memories of four happy and successful years at Jamaica High School. I3
