, r Q . i OEHCOKHQ joofdfepa America is waiting for a bus. A taxi is too expensive, walking too strenuous, and horses are old fashioned. America is standing on a street corner, stamping her feet, complaining about the weather, and waiting for a bus. She wants to get to Peace Street and Security Avenue. She wants to cross International Bridge, pass through Iron Curtain Tunnel, and strew garlands of democracy to the people along the way. JO When Abe Lincoln wanted to go somewhere, he walked. He picked up one foot, put it down in front of the other, and in his long even strides . . . he got there. America, at least the generation which represents America to the world today, is growing old standing on that corner. She couldn't start walking now if she wanted to. She'll die waiting for a bus. 'Oh, she's willing to pay the fare, but until it comes along, what else can she do but wait? However, young America, the new America, is still strong, with long legs just perfect for rough hiking. She can arm herself with truth and faith, take the light of freedom in her hand as a torch, and walk with long even strides to Peace and Security. She can see high idealistic plans for world fellowship and brotherhood with her young eyes. She can walk forward, each step based on wisdom and faith in God, into new horizons of love between all peoples. She can, if she starts early in the morning fthe moming of youth's enthusiasm and strengthj, get there long before sunset, before the darkness of mortal hate and killing can descend upon the world once more-in time to relight the sky with her torch, of freedom. The question is, will she? Or will the new America join the old, standing on a street corner, waiting for a bus? The hdpe of the world lies in her footsteps. 4 Howard Boughey 5 .-.o n . . . ., -a . .
