Dear Friends of the Class of January 1952: As your Principal I wish to add my congratulations to those of your officers and advisors upon your achievement of a significant milestone in your lives. Gradua- tion from high school is most assuredly a real accomplishment and your diploma is your certification that we, of the faculty of Jamaica High School, believe in you and are willing to present you to the world as the product of this school. We must all sense that we are passing through an era in which standards of life are changing. Most of us have luxuries that were unheard-of a generation ago. One of the tragedies of our era is the fact that, in the pursuit of a living which will include these luxuries, many people lose their sense of values. In witness to this fact I might cite the recently uncovered corruption in public life, in business, and in collegiate sport. It is most important for you to remember that your diploma is an endorsement of your character as well as your scholarship and that the simple old virtues of reliability and honesty still have a place in the life of the second half of the Twentieth Century. It is my hope that your Jamaica High School days have given you high standards of reliability and integrity that will endure throughout your lives and prevent you from being engulfed by the more sordid aspects of the materialism of our age.
