FACULTY MEMBERS Believing that Education Is Making Men , the Riis faculty during the past year stressed not only subject matter achieve- ment but development of character as well. Guiding the work of the academic de- partment was Miss Downs, academic co- ordinator. Working under her were Mr. Otto Becker, Mr. Walter Becker, Mr. Ben- nett, Mr. Brosnan, Mr. Burt, Mr. Kroll, Mr. Livernash, Mr. Martinelli, Miss McKee, Mr. Pitkanen, Mr. Stevens, Mrs. Sturges, and Mr. Van Sistine. Practical vocational education in the shop classes was under the guidance of Mr. Petersen who was the vocational educa- tion coordinator. Specialists in the various vocations who taught the shop classes were Mr. George Becker, Mr. Bryant, Mr. Bur- chett, Mr. DeMou1in, Mr. Kyzivat, Mr. Peterson, Mr. Pieri, Mr. Purdy, Mr. Schwartz, and Mr. West. Mr. Schneider very efficiently kept track of the shop tools. The physical education department un- der the leadership of Mr. Alldis sought, not only to provide interschool athletic competition, but to teach healthful Ways of living for all boys at Riis. Assisting in this program were Mr. Bogen, and Mr. Seminario, coaches: Mr. Bennett, the health coordinator, and Mr. Brenner, life guard. A hearty thank you is due the secretar- ial staff who helped make the school run so efficiently. Mrs. Kuntz was secretary to Mr. Gordon while Mrs. Vogt and Mr. Gray worked in the attendance office, and Mr. Benner acted as Financial Manager. Mrs. Huff and Mrs. Geeilin looked after the nutritional needs of the boys of the school as they helped Mr. Peterson in the cafeteria. Helping to make the school building and grounds an attractive and healthy place to learn was the custodial staff under the di- rection of Mr. Staiger with assistance from Mr. Benze, Mr. Cornwell, Mr. Howard, Mr. Seidensticker, and Mr. Spaulding.
