Ken and Ann are two of the firft .rtudents to move into the new dormitoriex - a major facet of jU'J life now. Formal rufh for women concluded with Mn. johnsonb' annual tea. Dorm life exemplified the mixing of the old and new at IU thi! year. Along with the new dormf came the entirely new nnioerfity Jwitchhoard, the clearing for a new highway, new pool tahlef, and a new face on the water tower. Among new actioitiex at IU there were participation in Artr' Feftinal Fine, the oixit of the Italian xoccer team, and the gigantic Chriftmaf tree. The sammer was spent planning layoat, copy and dead- lines. Themes were kicked aroand antil at last the theme its People, Life and Spirit was horn. The staff was large in namher and enthusiasm seemed to explain their every thoaght - then came the first deadline and an anskilled staff hegan to worry, many sammer soldiers withered in the heat of pressare from its wrath. A deadline is qaite a calprit, it waits for nothing - tests, term papers, homework, dates -all give way in order to make the deadline. The faith in the haman race is restored when Mrs. Horton grahs an innocent stadent and escorts him or her to the Pahlications Office. The stadent gives what he has and lacky escapes the wrath of hecoming a staff memher. Vivian was one of the less fortanate for she was drafted as organizations editor - a joh well done and one which woald have heen impossihle withoat her. My appreciation goes to the staff especially Marty, Mike and john for their endless efforts. Of coarse, the entire staff and Mr. Strickler deserve the fall credit for the prodaction of the 1963 Riparian. The staff has tarned oat this yearhook in half the time normally reaaired and this in itself was qaite an accomplish- ment.
