Admln lstra tlon iiiii '1 Robert H. Sprio is the fourth president of J ack sonville University. He came he re in June 1964 from Mercer University, Macon, Georgia where he served four years ! ''''' as Dean of College of Liberal Arts and Professor of History. He served in the United States Navy from 1941 to 1945, including six months study in the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. From 1943 to 1945, he was Supply and Disbursing Officer aboard the Navy Destroyer, Morris, which engaged in 16 combat missions in the pacific. He is now a 1. m a Rear Admiral in the Navy Reserve and serves as Commandantis Local Re- mk, presentative for the Sixth Naval District. Meet our Com- i manding Officer . . . . . . . '1ng Captain Muncie enlisted in the Navy in August of 1942 and upon completion of . boot training attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School at Norfolk, Vir- ginia. He entered-the Naval Academy in June of 1943 and graduated three years later in June 1946. His first assignment was the destroyer DAMATO- tDD87U 1 where he served for 216 years before reporting for submarine training. From 1949 to 1960 he served in various submarine billets, including the submarines f RONQUIL, MENHADEN, BUGARA, BALAO and SENNET, the last two of which he was the Commanding Officer. In 1960, after a tour in the Office of Naval Re- search in Washington, he reported as Executive Officer of the amphibious ship PLYMOUTH ROCK. tLSD29i followed by a tour as Commanding Officer of the destroyer BARTON tDD7221. In 1966 he attended the Naval War College and upon graduation reported to the 1 Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. He received his Masters Degree in Inter- national Affairs from The George Washington University in 1967. Upon eom- ,- pletion of this Washington tour he reported as Commanding officer of the ammunition ship SURIBACHI tAEZU. ' Captain Muncie reported as Commanding Officer of the NROTC Unit, Jack- CAPTAINMAURICE 0- MUNCIE sonville University in July 1971 after a two year tour in the Office of the Assistant Commandmg Off'wr NROTCLJU Secretary of Defense Unternational Security Affairsi. He is married and has three children. 1 Lt. Col. Nulty graduated from Columbia College, New York, in 1954 and i was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps j in 1955. - g Since then he has served tours of duty as platoon 1eader,c0mpany commander and i battalion commander in infantry units and as platoon commander and company commander in reconaissance units. He received his MA. degree from Hofstra University in American History in 1970 and has attended several service schools including; Pyschological Warfare SChOOl, Jump School, Jungle Warfare School and many others. Personal de- corations include two Bronze Stars, the Joint Services Commendation Medal, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Silver Star.
