H ft 7 8.05 I 3 When Paul H. Snow died on June 19, 1957, a man of unprecedented value to Jacksonville State College was lost. A graduate of the College, Mr. Snow spent a great part of his life giving assistance and proving his loyalty to his Alma Mater. We, of Jacksonville, owe thanks to this man for more things that can be listed here. A prominent businessman in Jefferson County, Alabama, Paul Snow was one year an active president of Jacksonville's Alumni Association, and was active in the organization for many years. By all who knew him, and there were many who did, Mr. Snow was considered a benefactor of education, an outstanding citizen, and a valuable persona! friend. Though every student at Jacksonville State College may not have known him personally, and though some had perhaps not heard of him, Paul Snow is to be considered a benefactor of everyone connected with the college. He will be remembered, in the words of Dr. Houston Cole, as one of this college's very best friends. F I 420 ’SlUTf. COlttGt UBRMtv . A .- • RAMONA WOOD libpattt i n ut D%. S' S- Dr. E. E. Nelson, a member of the science faculty, died in September after an illness of several weeks. Although he joined the faculty only a few months before his death he was a member of a family closely identified with this college. He was the only one of four brothers who did not graduate here. Dr. Nelson received B.S., M.S., and D.Ed. degrees from the Alabama Polytechnic Institute, and an M.A. degree from the University of Alabama. He has been in the educational field since 1933 and, before coming to Jacksonville in June 1957, was principal of the Albertville High School. DecUecitio t —... ....... To a capable newspaper lady, a faithful civic worker. . . To a popular, dedicated member of the staff of Jacksonville State College . . . To an efficient, hard-working publicity director . . . To one who is deeply interested in helping and encouraging other people . . . To one who at all times is, first, a lady . . . To Mrs, R. K. Coffee, we proudly dedicate this THE 1958 MIMOSA. Oux T xe ident ‘P'leAidext a A yearbook always proves a valuable memento for students. It is a reference in retrospect to which one can turn to refresh the mist of memory. To all of our students who have contributed to this issue of the MIMOSA, I convey my congratulations and the appreciation of Jacksonville State College. Experts picked Jax a three TD underdog, but with Gamecock spirit they lost by only eight points. The big difference in the game was the passing arm of 'Nooga's John Green, who opened up the Jax Defense for 221 yards by the air lines. 'Nooga took a quick lead after fullback Cook scored from the five-yard line. The Gamecock defense got stubborn, and that was all the scoring for the first half. Early in the third period 'Nooga blocked a Gamecock punt in the end zone for a safety. With the score 8-0, Jax's attack started clicking. With the Jaxmen mixing their running game with timely passes, they quickly accounted with halfback Doug Davidson going in for the score. Smith converted and Jax trailed 8-7. The Moccasins iced it with another score in the final period, with a Green to Cook pass. The conversion was good, and that ended the scoring for the night. Middle Tennessee State unleashed a grinding ground game combined with a brilliant passing attack to dominate the whole game.
