In Memory of . . MISS DORA WOOD Miss Dora Wood’s untiring efforts toward the betterment of campus life at Jacksonville earned her a lasting place in the hearts of the students at our college. The students, administration, faculty, and community recognize the debt which they owe the gracious lady who had been a member of the college staff for many years until her death on June 7, 1953. Miss Wood had been a member of the staff as secretary to the president, certification secretary, and assistant to the registrar. She was always willing to participate in student affairs and endeared herself to them by her sincere interest in their personal problems. Although it is characteristic of human beings to accept the philosophy that “time marches on” and that the “old order changeth,” the influence of Miss Wood will be felt long after her activity ceased. The spirit she manifested will never die. and MRS. RAMONA WOOD Mrs. Ramona Middleton Wood, wife of the college dean, had become one of the most beloved members of the college staff during the 32 years that she was identified with the old State Normal School and with the State Teachers College. Her untimely death on August 30, 1953, was a severe blow to the students and to the college which she had served faithfully during her long tenure. In a period of 32 years she served thousand of students and faculty members who crossed the threshold of the college library. She did what she could to supply required materials and to provide a physical environment conducive to reading, study and reflection. Her long and faithful service at our college gives her an earned and rightful place among the few who devoted most of their professional years to the service of the institution. The untiring work of Mrs. Ramona Wood has been lost to the college, but she will continue to live in the hearts and minds of the students and the staff. 10
