Their duties include ap- proval of all school personnel and budgets, and authorization of the construction of necessary buildings. These men work without pay. MAULDIN uperintendent of Jacksonville Public chools Mr. Mauldin has spent many months planning and supervising the construction of the new plant. He has been the driving force behind other expansions in the facilities of Jacksonville schools. At J.H.S. Mr. Mauldin has always been sincerely interested in the students. , .5 - i ,g aww -WM Mrs. Rayford Milstead is secretary to Mr. Mauldin and bookkeeper for the Jackson- ville Independent School District. Mrs. Edith Goodson is also a secretary to Mr. Mauldin. Principal of Jacksonmlle Senior High As principal of Jacksonville Senior High School, Dr. Jones worked hand in hand with Mr Mauldm and the school board in supervising the construction of our new school He has always been co operative with the student body i11 planning school activities The students appreciate his w1ll1n ness to help them. Mrs. J. M. Toland, the amiable and co- operative registrar, is ever ready to help and assist faculty and students. She serves Dr. Jones as Secretary. Mr. Roy Hanna is our counsellor. He has charge of tickets for all athletic contests. His degrees are B.A. and M.A. from Stephen F. Austin. Faculty Mr C P Mosley is the teacher of chemistry plane geometry, solid geometry, and trigonometry. He received his AB and MA degrees from Baylor University, Pictured with Mr. Mosley are Sissy Philllos the lab asslstant for this year and Marcus Wink. Mr. O. E. Miller teaches vocational agri- culture, He is also the sponsor of the F.F.A. He received his M.A. degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College. Miss Mary Summers is our librarian and sponsor of the Library Club. She re- ceived her B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Houston. Mrs. Fred Mullinix teaches Spanish I and Spanish Il and sponsors the Spanish Club, La Estrella. She received her B.A. degree from Baylor and her M.A. from Stephen F. Austin. Mr. J. B. Light teaches Algebra H and physics. He is also the sponsor of the Student Council. Mr. Light received his B.S. at East Texas Baptist College and his M. of Ed. from Stephen F. Austin. Registration found everyone anxiously awaiting school in the new building. The first day was something. Seniors as Well as Freshmen were lost. The faculty and students soon became adjusted and a new J.H.S. spirit was born. Adding to the first of the year excitement was the arrival of Senior rings. They are shown to the left with Wanda Johnson who was elected by the student body as the Good Citizen of the Year Wanda was elected from among the Good Citizens of the various months throughout the school year. Mr. Jack Wages, Patsy Scott, Susan Wilson. In the Good Citizenship Essay Contest, sponsored by the Civitan Club, Patsy Scott won second place and Susan Wilson won first place. Susan then won second place in district competition. The Citizenship Committee selected Pat Comelison and Jimmy Connor as the Citizens of April. John Davenport and Cleta Conway were selected for March. Special Days and Events For the second consecutive year, the lNDlAN has won first place at Journalism Day, Baylor University. Alice Burrill, Linda Hudson, and Marianna Haherle are shown to the right placing the trophy in the case. In May, the third year honiemaking girls were the guests of the United Gas Company in Shreveport. The girls visited four beautiful, modern kitchens, and then were served a wonderful chicken dinner. Charlotte Foster and ,loyce Wilson are shown above in the Kitchen for Gracious Living. Grady Rountree and Neil Dark are shown to the right on the campus of Southern Methodist University where they rep- resented the track team at the Regional Meet. Coach Dean worked with about twenty-five boys this spring. Senior Day Fun for all was the order of the day on Senior Day at Tyler State Park. Food fit for kings was enjoyed by all. as well as dancing. boating. skiing, swimming, and miniature golf. While some skied, others rode in boats. and the more energetic ones chose paddle boats which ran on man power alone. Although the weather was rather cool, swim- ming also was popular that afternoon. Although Old Man Weather caused havoc, the juniors made up for the rain With their lovely Japanese Teahouse, marvelous food, and Wonderful entertainment. The Western Party, sponsored hy the F.H.A., featured a very modern theme. The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the 1959-1960 cheerleaders, who were elected by the student body.
