The record this year is probably the best team record of any other sport at the high school. Some of the highlights of the season were: the team placing 2nd in the Capitol Conference; winning the District for the 5th year in a row; and Bill Flynn’s representation and 125th place finish at the state finals in Peoria. With the top two runners Bill Flynn and Ken Rebstock, and 4th man Kevin Reiterman graduating, the Crimsons will really have to work hard to keep up the fine tradition of having good teams in Cross Country. 72 TOP RUNNERS Coach Moy 73 FOOTBALL TEAM PICTURE, Bottom Row L to R Are: Rick Samples, David Hickox, Matt Fearson, Steve Stewart. After dropping their opener and then winning their next outing against Granite City North, it looked like the Crimson’s were heading in for a good season. But after that victory the jinx was back and stayed with them the rest of the season. Warren Lewis was the quarter-back this year and had a real good season. Reg Benton and Bob Bettis received most of Lewis’ aerials throughout the season. On the line, Thor Thorsen, John Heinzman, Pete Irwin, Rodney Thompson, Mike McGillicudy, and Rob Caldwell made up the blocking and tackling spots. The football team will have some fine players returning next year and if they can put things together, should have a good season. 75 Warren Lewis Charley White Jim Waltrip 76 Rob Caldwell Kevin Heller SENIOR Ben Denney John Hull Jim Fry LETTERMEN Pete Irwin Thor Thorsen Mike McGillicudy John Hein man Steve Wheeler Rodney Thompson Jim Lukeman Coach Gary S pangen berg and coca pts.
