She and Bill reversed the order this year-due to unavoidable circumstances, he sits on her lapl This is the same stage that sup- ported such rousing entertainment as our little 5 by 5 Enselman's Baby Snooks act with Daddy Hollowell in the annual Minstrel of 1940, and those simply terrific skits presented by the newly organized l'ettes. Will you ever forget the day Liz Indian Thurmon CSome nickname, eh, I told her not to cut her hair? got the giggles and took up the remaining five minutes of the program all by herself? Two weeks later Spence fDorisD, our favorite comedienne, made her debut on the stage quite successfully as Marryin' Sam in the Sadie Hawkins Day skit. Ohhh-what she did! flt was a big black cigar-and it was litl Need I say more?D Well, spring came soon, as spring inevitably will, and the increasing tempo of freshman antics slowed down to the charm and intrigue of soft looks and audible sighs. Birds twittered and hearts palpitated rapidly for secret lovers known to the individual alone. But we could guess when Ruthie Mey- er began making eyes at Melba Pot- ter's big brother , it was the thought of Hank Messer's band, not Carmen's voice, that was fanning the flame in her heart. Yes, midst trumpets and fanfare, it finally arrived. The thrill of a lifetime-the lunior - Senior Prornl And we, the freshmen class of 1940, were invited. There ensued much con- niving on the part of freshman girls and squirming on the part of freshman boys Knot to mention the upperclass- men. who quite suddenly found them- selves hopelessly entangled in our snares-Iokelll Among those in this sad state were such confirmed old bachelors fof that day, at leastl as Frank Slug Slagle and Iohn lug- head Marshall fwho, in recent years have changed their views to the ex- tent of openly declaring girls as their main interest in High School.
