This is The record of Jacksonville College. These fifty Three years have been good years for our school. Hundreds of young men and women have been blessed by the ministry of Jacksonville College. Around the world there are Those who gladly sing The praises of the school that is different. In all the years Jacksonville College has never had a finer student body Than the present one. Young men and women on our campus have come from several different states. They represent a high Type of personality. It is a pleasure to be associated with such a noble group. It is a ioy to observe The vigor and enthusiasm of youth on our campus. We rejoiced last year because of The new Library Building which was made possible by The liberality of W. J. Weatherby. This year our hearts are made glad because of The face lifTing iob that is Taking place on The Old Administration Building. This grand old building has been bravely standing in the center of our campus since I899. We are also reioicing in the renewed interest among the churches of the Baptist Missionary Association Toward Jacksonville College. Indeed, a new day has dawned for our school. The Guiding Light Staff is to be complimented for The untiring work that is being done toward this year's annual. It is my hope that this will be The best annual presented to the public by our student body. May God's richest blessings rest upon our schools the administration, faculty, and student body. Yours for a greater Jacksonville College. GERALD D. KELLAR aft -afffiifit rllifv W. J. Second row C E Banks Coach Norvil Williams, forward, Jimmie Henry, center, David Morgan, The 1952-53 basketball team deserves the admiration and thanks of the entire student body of J.B.C. Despite the fact that very little encouragement and support was given the team they were faithful in their practice and hustled in their games. Several men were lost during the course of the season. A schedule was played with principally independent teams. l desire to express my appreciation to each of the team members for their cooperation and participation in making our season what it was. Your school spirit was much better than that of most of the student body. C. E. When there was anything to cheer about you can depend on These Three to be there. The 1953 cheerleaders are from left to right: Carolyn Jones, Lo- rene Coleman, and Jo Ussery. Yea Purple! Yea Gold! Come on Jaguars! Let's go! i lt ,ij wwgskwn LOVE GAME! Another favorite sort for all was Ping- Pong. The ping-pong room in the gym was a busy place all year. Margaret Broussard, Mary Sipes, and Martha Jones show how its done with ball and racquet. N... x BASKETBALL The winter sport that kept the girls busy was the old peach-basket game called basketball. Here a game gets underway with a lump ball in the center circle. With encouragement from the side lines and whistle blasts from the refe- ree several hotly contested games were played during the girls' physical education classes. -Nl? -1: w 'Q' 'U-'lifts' , ayflhu 9 ., qi 0 , 4' Li D .rd- TENNIS When school opens in the Fall, you can hear: Ready? This sport was enioyed by both boys and girls with several closely con- tested games being played. The girls re-enact a typical scene. T PING-PONG CHAMPIONS ln the Fall Ping-Pong tournament Val Hinkle was champion in the consola- tion bracket, Austin Stedman was runner-up to the champion, and Milton Wright was the school champ. They are pictured here left to right. , 'M INTRAMURAL FOOTBALL CHAMPS Coach C. E.
