49ers After leavmg the office I went stra1ght to the post office to ma1l my report to Mr Brown After that I stopped at a real n1ce restaurant to eat lhe meal was excellent and to my surprlse there was a stage show A glrl came out to s1ng and when I hrst saw and heard her I couldn t beheve It It was Ruth W1Ht6FS Hel volce was more beautlful than ever After her number I came up to talk to her She had been s1ng1ng 1n restaurants all over the Umted States Alter d1nner I was walkmg down the street and who should I bump 1nto but Uelores Henry Lxcuse me It was Mrs Marley Shepard Marley was st1ll IH the army but he and Delores were marr1ed and she came out to l os Angeles to 11ve where he was stat1oned Delores was on her way to meet Marley and they were gOlHg to the motorcycle races She told me Buddee N ewhart was racmg and that he had been do1ng qu1te well I hadn t planned anyth1ng tor the atternoon so 1 dec1ded to go w1th them Buddee won the race Atter the race we all went to talk to Buddee He had mar rled a sweet l1ttle blonde and was a ve1y happy young man As I was on my way back to the hotel that nlght I got to th1nk1ng1 about my old classmates I began to wonder It they were all 1n Cahfornla l declded wh1le on my vacat1on I would stop IH Ind1ana and spend a week w1th my folks at Jamestown and try to hnd some more of my classmates around Jamestown and Advance By Wednesday I was 1n Jamestown and glad to see my folks I went up town that afternoon and my how It had changed fo my surpr1se there was one ot the best grocery stores ever to be bu1lt 1n the town I went 1n and you guessed It Harr1ett and Lowell were the owners I was really glad to see Harrlett and Lowell and al o thelr two ch1ldren a l1ttle g1rl red The next day I took the car and went 1nto the country for a Slght see mg tour I was dr1v1ng along when I read a s1gn on the Slde of a barn bmmerts Hampshlre PlgS Yes It was Phyll1s Johnson excuse me I hyll1s Emmert B111 and Phylhs had three ch1ldren two boys and a l1t tle glrl Phy111s Sald she enjoy ed the farm 11fe as usual and was very happy As I journeyed on I came to a ma11box WhlCh read Mr and Mrs W1ll1am Hedge I wondered lf that was B111 Hedge my old classmate About that tlme a huge truck drove 1nto the dr1veway and of course B111 was behlnd the wheel B111 came over to the car to talk to me VN e went 1nto the house to meet h1S Wlfe and as I had guessed It was Dee Wade or Dee Hedge now B111 told me he had spent three years 1n the army after school then when he came home he got marr1ed and started truckmg and farmmg Dee and B111 had a l1ttle year and half old daughter and she looked Just l1ke her mother I v1s1ted w1th them for a wh1le then I was on my way aga1n I drove several m1les when IH a field along the road I not1ced some farmer havmg trouble Wlth h1s tractor I thought I recognlzed the gentle man but I wasn t sure I stopped the car and to my surprlse lt was J1m Henry. 49ers CLASS PROPHECY One brlght sunshlny dax Mas 5 1957 I was busy t5 pmg letters for my boss Mr Brown In these past years I had worked my way up to the pos1t1on of pr1vate secletalx to the ma1n boss 1n a New York Insurance oflice I had been dolng vxell W1th mv yob and l1fe was treat1ng me fine The bell on my desk rang and I went 1nto Mr Brown s oftice I got the surpr1se of my l1fe Mr B1 own wantcd me to go to Los Angeles Callforma on lmportant buslness rlght away It was about my vacatlon t1me so he told me to take three weeks 1ust so I got the lnformatlon and send It back I left the oflice as soon as poss1ble and packed ready to leave at 7 00 p m Mr Brown had plane reservatmns already made Exactly at 7 OO p m I cllmbed aboald the huge Ameucan AIFIIHGQ Transport I handed my tlcket to a l1ttle stewaldess about tive feet tall At first I dldn t rec ognlze her I stopped a mlnute and at the same t1me we recognlzed each other It was Judy Ragsdale one of my classmates back 1n the 1949 grad uatmg class of Jack on Hlgh Judy 'nd she vsould talk to me 1n the plane We finally took off and soon Judy came to talk to me I found out she was st1ll Judy Ragsdale and had wolked as a receptloness for Amer1can Alrlmes 1n Chlcago and vuolked her wav up to stewardess We talked awhlle longer then about 11 00 a m we landed for more passengers Judy came and took me up to the p1lot s COCkDlt and whom do you suppose I saw? Yes you were r1ght It was Kenny Pllckard Judy left Kenny and I to talk for awhlle I learned Kenny had reallv got busy after he got that dxploma and started cllmblng up He had always been lnterested Ill alrplanes and now he was one of the best pllots That had been an 8XC1tlI1g' day fO1 me and by mornmg I was safely ln Los Angeles I sald good bye to Judy and Kenny and went stralght to my hotel room By 9 00 I was on my way to the othce I was to go to for Mr Brown It wasn t far from the hotel so I dec1ded to walk I was passmg a car lot when I read on the s1gn Smlth 8: Pratt I stopped and glanced over the lot Bs one of the new 1957 Merculys I saw a tall blond headed gentleman You mlght have known It was Her man Smlth I was surprlsed to see Her man but he told me he was dolng fine He sald Fene Pratt was hls partner and they had come to Calxforma as soon as school was out Cene and Her man had wonderful WIVGS I met them later before I went back to New York In a short t1me I was on my way agaln I came to the bulldlng and took the elevator to the 8th floor I found the oilice and went 1n On the door I had notlced the nam Dane VS alker Attorney at Law I wondered lf It could be the same Dane Walker and bellexe It or not lt was Dane and I talked and worked on buslness I dxdn t know when I started out that Dane was the lawy QI I was to see He had done fine w1th h1s work and was st1ll unmarrled - -r . v , r y s - , a 5 A p lv at , . . -. , , .,, .
