In this volume of the Blue and Gold we have endeavored to capture a few glimpses of school life as we see it today. No place in all the world is education so free and so generously offered to so many as in the United States of America. This did not just happen, but was the result of a long iight to gain free education. First came the free elementary school, then the free grammar school, followed by the high school, and this followed by the free state universities. There had to be many champions of the cause of education. That work is now being carried on in large measure by our Boards of Education. If you wish to find a community in which education is on the march, you search for a community where good men will serve on the Board of Education, men who have the good of all the community at heart. In rendering decisions, the good board member considers all angles-the pupil, the parent, the teacher, the janitor, the bus driver, the administration, the taxpayer, and when the evidence is all considered, he makes his decision in the light of what is best for all. We at J ackson-Liberty are fortunate in that we have good men who are willing to be the guardians of our school. Mr. Jones has served us well for many years. Mr. Harrison is in his second term. Mr. Kisabeth, Mr. Snyder, and Mr. Holman are serving their first term. Mr. Harrison, Mr. Snyder, and Mr. Kisabeth are graduates of Jackson-Liberty. Board members, we appreciate your good work and wish you much happiness in carrying on your important task. This is our School 'S'- 'High 'ish HONEIEC.ROOM This is the new Home Economics department. It is hoped that this newly equipped room will help attract more pupils to this department. SHOP This is another of our new rooms. After the accommodations of the past several years, we are very happy to have these splendid rooms to house our vocational agri- culture department. We hope to have more people take advantage of these facilities. This is our School CAFETERIA You will recognize our former gymnasium converted into this splendid cafeteria. Approximately 300 pupils may eat here. Both elementary and high school pupils eat in this room at noon. Attached is a fine, well equipped kitchen and store room. This room also houses one of our mimeograph machines. This is our School AUDITORIUM In this room you will recognize our former auditorium reversed. The stage is our new gymnasium. This auditorium will seat 462 without additional chairs. We hope to see you at commencement time. MUSIC ROOM .This is our new music room. All the pupils come here for their music classes. This is another of our larger departments. We are very happy for this room with its store room for instruments and supplies. Qur Parent Teachers' Association Irene Hartline, Secretary, William Holman, Vice President, Earl Myers, Presidentg Mary Striff, Treasurer. A membership campaign was conducted through the school. The chil- dren proved they were very able at getting members. The P. T. A. sponsored a fish supper and basketball games to raise money. The ladies game brought many a laugh and sore muscles. The game was Won by the Liberty women. The Liberty men also took the honor from the Jackson men for a very entertaining game. At Christmas time the children of the first and second grades presented the Christmas story under the direction of Mrs. Aldrich. Later Santa Claus r arrived to delight all the children with a candy treat. The association purchased library books, stage curtains, and dishes for the school. They also gave money toward the summer recreation program. Another entertaining minstrel was presented by the P. T. A. this year. The cast of sixty members kept the audience in laughter. It was presented two nights with real success. S E N I U R S 'l'I Q ii Jerald Riedling Beanie President v if W 4 wi A o K Y figs f , f,XA -. Wayne Holman is the owner, coach and star player on the team. Youll never guess who the other team is. Its the World famous f'Harlem Globe Trotters , Sure do Wish I had the t'me to Watch the rest of the game, but I gotta shag along! Hope The Runners' beat The T1'otters ! Well let s see who s next. It s Kenny Vance no less. Boy has he ever got it easy! He is head photographer for Photoplay Magazine. I bet he enjoys photographing all those beautiful movie stars! Oh darn, Rock Hudson was just Walking into Kenny s studio when I lost contact, but maybe my future will be next. Hope so! N 0 it s Maryetta Loomis instead, and I surely envy her. She s got her own private office. She is the private secretary of the Governor of Ohio. Now lets see who the next one is! Say now, this sure is a change of scenery. I can see a State Highway Patrolman and he is really giving some guy a merry chase. Boy this is really exciting. I hope my crystal ball gets close enough so I can see who it is. Now it s moving in, and it s Jim Pasch. Boy knowing Jim as I do I bet he really gives that guy a piece of his mind. There he has the car stopped. Well what do you know? It s not a man at all but a pretty girl and Jim is letting her go! Well like I said, Jim hasn t changed at all, so Ill see who I can dig up next on this thing. I sure hope I m next! Now I can see a factory and it s a mammoth Thing! Whatever they manufacture they must be big. Ill 'see what it says on the sign on the front of the building. It says Tiny s Long Long Trailers . Why Leonard Hatfield owns a house trailer factory in the big city of Amsden. Glad to see good ole Tiny doing so well. Im also glad to see Bonnie Shultz so happy. Of course Bill Peeler changed her name for her a little while after she graduated. They have quite a nice size family and Bill is very busy managing all-his farms. The one they live on is over 2000 acres itself ! I see here that Margaret Frisch is the Dean of Women at the world s most famous business school, Tiffin University. She started out just being a Professor in Com- mercial courses at T.U., and now look Where she is! Y is I m in, but you should see how the people are running around here. I never saw so much confusion in all my life. Somebody is opening a door to a big office and a blond haired man is sitting behind the desk. I hope the crystal ball gets closer so I can see who it is. It s the face of Paul Layton and he is the editor of the Chicago Daily Times . NoW,I can see the reason for everyone being so busy. He is also an owner and instructor in his spare time in a dancing studio. He has a special step of his ,own that he teaches all his pupils. Boy if my future doesnt come before long Ill die of curiosity! Well I think mines finally coming in view. You might know mine would be last! Oh Im so excited, I only hope my life will be as exciting as the rest of my classmates! The fog is disappearing now, and apparently Im married, because it shows me in a house Waiting at a door! Now I wonder whom Im waiting for? I look like Im happy even though I am pacing the floor. Well someone is coming down the walk. Im looking out the window and its a man. He must be my husband. Well Im opening the door and - - - well of all people I m married to - - - oooo1os!!!! The crystal ball slipped out of my hands- and shattered into a million nieces on the side walk. Since I didn t get a real good look at the man s face I won t reveal his name because it could be mistaken identity! Im rather disappointed because I didnt see my Whole future, but I did see my fellow classmates. Im glad to know they are all successful in their different pro- fessions, but most of all I rn glad to be a member of this class! Mary Williams 36 The Student Council is the students oppor- tunity to participate in school administration. However, any act of this body is subject to the veto of the superintendent of the school. lt is a representative group of pupils elected by the classes and by several of the clubs of the school. This Council represents grades seven to twelve. The first attempt at this activity was made under the guidance of Mr. Snyder. After about two years it was given up and was not revived until the time of Mr. Now. Some of the official acts of this group have been the establishment of our system of making awards in athletics, music and public speaking. For several years, the council was responsible for yearly planning of an assembly and chapel program. More recently they have examined the budgets of the classes and organizations and either rejected or accepted them. In this way each class has been protected in the money making projects alloted to its group. The most important money making project of this organization is the magazine campaign. This is more successful each year and we hope to make it a habit. Some of our projects are to finance the Ath- letic Banquet, pay the fees for the Senior Schol- arship Tests. We also sponsor, financially, the Honor Society. Yearly we purchase and decor- ate the Christmas Tree, conduct the election of cheerleaders, and plan the Freshman initiation. This year we plan to spend some money for stage properties. The council is constantly on the look-out for projects that will make Jackson-Liberty a better school. Do you have any to suggest? The music department at J ackson-Liberty would not be complete without the traditional clarinet quartet. They entered the music contests in the spring and to date received I rating in the clinic. These girls were highly praised by the judge on fine intonation and their ability to listen to each other. For some reason these girls always have a lot of fun with all of their prob- lems. The week of the contest one mouth piece fell to the floor and broke into bits, one clarinet lost several pads, another cracked a barrel and Miss Huff almost lost her mind. fWho wouldn't'?J The quartet will be a trio next year, for one of our fun-makers, Darlene Kline will be leaving for B. G. studying to be an elementary teacher. Best of luck, Clinker! BETTSV I LLE HARDWARE Who could have more fun than these six snappy gals and Miss Huff? Like the night they enter- tained the Kiwanis Club in Fos- toria and two of the girls passed all of their shrimp cocktail under the table and put it in Miss Huff's lap. That same night one of them was taking Miss Huff home and ran over a four legged black animal with a white streak down its back. Risingsun sure got per- fumed that night! Herb was an in- spiration not only to the team but the fans as well. He will long be remembered for his cooperative attitude. Bob McGough-Guard Bob was a junior this year and showed splendid ability in handling the ball on the oifen- sive end of the court. He al- ways managed to put life in the team with a driving lay-up or a one-handed set shot. The fans will have their eyes on Bob again next year. Larry Hedden . .
