661,55 W I9 ec? As I was srttrng there rockrng as I always drd on the nrghts of the full moon my partner rn death Dorothy Hol man happened to remark that there was a new grave rn our cemetery Qurte a wealthy lookrng grave too she sard Dorothy had gone through lrfe qurte a happrly mamed lady but when her husband presrdent of the new multr mrllron dollar Bersted Co dred she was on the look-out for another husband Dorothy rnvestrgated every new grave Just to be sure Thrs trme rt was a wealthy man fmd as thrs was the now famed Iackson Lrberty Graveyard we expected rt to be a graduate of our Alma Mater Sure enough rt was a short slender man wrth a tarlor made surt and the newest style derby He looked famrlrar and when he came forward and started talkmg we recognrzed hrm as our boy orator Dallas Loomrs Patrrck Henry the teachers called hrm Dallas told us land we put rt rn the ledger for Samt Peterl that he was a successful polrtrcran and that hrs party had won almost every electron rn the state and that he Dallas Loomrs Esqurre was the top man rn hrs party We were very happy for Dallas and glad that he Jorned us Dallass ptrvate secretary he told us was a beautiful redhead Her name? Why Ianrce Werssrnger of course' Ian had told me at one trme that she wanted to be a secretary She was a part trme model too I heard We were glad that she d achreved what she desrred most After a few short years our graveyard had blossomed two more graves those of Yvonne Ecker and Mary Ann Saum And so we dragged out two more rockrng charrs from the attrc and got them ready Seerng as how we could only meet under a full moon we had a lot of talkrng to do Yvonne as we leamed had gone on to college and had achreved her goal that of berng a hrgh school math teacher But that wasnt all land we had to pry thrs out of herl she was also the State Drrector of Educatron and had been resrdrng and teachrng m Columbus She was also a frne wrfe and mother to her famrly Nothrng more de servmg could have happened to a frner grrl Whrle we were talkmg wrth Yvonne a tall stately blonde had come rn and sat down We recognrzed Mary Ann Saum rrght away fShe always drd have curly harr the lucky strffl She wore a unrform and I knew what rt was because l had one too It was the unrform of a WAP Mary Ann and I had gone through basrc trammg together but then we parted I was almost afrard to talk to her now wrth all that gold brard and those rrbbons on her lseerng as how I went rn as a Prrvate and came out the same wayl She spoke rrght up though and sard shed been all over the world durmg her career Shed been happy and I guess thats what counts most rn lrfe A I had my ledger rn front of me I wrote down two more names for Pete of lrves well spent and Jobs well done One day about srx years later we saw the grave drggers start three more graves and so we got out three more rockers from our attrc and polrshed them for our new arrrvals We were patrently wartrng to see who rt was so we sent Dorothy out to look She came back very excrtedly and sard all three were men We could hardly hold her down untrl they got to where we were but some- how we managed They tumed out to be three funny fellows as we remembered Francrs Hammer Alfred Brrck ner and Bob Murphy It seemed that Franny and Alfred were rn cahoots rn a huge state-wrde co-operatrve farmers prolect for whrch all the farmers rn the State were grateful for the progress and prosperrty that they were enloyrng Although they were the leaders of the co-operatrve the brarns behrnd the leaders was a tall handsome man wrth an amazrng talent for bookkeeprng Hrs name was Bob Murphy and rf we remember rrght another member of hrs famrly taught that subrect I guess that must be the reason for hrs huge success All three of these fellows became qurte wealthy and had very beautrful wrves We were pleased to have such drstrngurshed members of socrety rorn our lowly graveyard Brt by brt or should I say body by body our grave- yard was begrnnrng to grow In fact rt was so large now that we had to push a few of the tombstones together to make more room Srnce mme was the frrst one there along wrth Dort s ours stayed where they were When we got through movrng everybody elses around though we had Murphs tombstone on top of Frannys grave and Dallass ended up over a plot of ground where nobody was even burred lI'Ie drdnt mmd though because he sard he felt more ahve than dead anywayl Seven more years went by and our rockrng charrs were gettrng squeaky and our vorces were rust about the same when a brg event occurred rn our graveyard HOUSE- WIVESI Yes housewrvesl We grrls rubbed our hands rn glee at that rdea You see everyone knows how a house- wrfe loves to gossrp over the back fence and we were expectrng some delrcrous news from these three grrls The grrls? Peg Butler Leann Byers and Marlyn Beck Peg and Marlyn both had four chrldren Two boys and two grrls Peg had marrred a televrsron executrve and had lrved rn the mansron on the hrll Partres champagne and garety galore! Gosh what fun she had Her chrldren were the nrcest krds on the block Peg had met her husband whrle she was strll rn school and she had been hrs secretary before she marrred hrm Marlyn had an excrtrng lrfe too It s on the order of Peg s but her husband rust happened to own the brggest truckrng lrne rn the state fl thrnk rt was the Amsden Truckrng Assocratronl Marlyn s krds went on rn other busrness ventures and were all successful She became a grandmother too by gollyl Now we come to the housewrfe who really deserved that trtle It seems that Mrss Byers had been marrred four trmes before she rorned us Four trmes now mrnd youl CA modem Lana Tumerll She had marrred fellows from four drfferent countrres lNothrng lrke a change eh?l Well all I can say rs rts a drrty shame fThat it drdnt happen to mell We grrls had qurte a trme the next few years talkmg together but the boys we notrced were gettrng a brt down rn the mouth for lack of company We were hopmg our next arrrvals would be boys By George one drd show up' Bob Stahl came marchrng up very proudly rn the um form of an Infantry Sergeant He had made the Army hrs career and had won qurte a few rmportant medals He had remarned a bachelor but strll had had a good trme It wasnt too long after that two more Iackson rtes yotned our ranks as full fledged corpses They came by the strangest methods tool Bud Barley landed frrst and I mean Just what I sard He landed It seemed that Bud was workrng as a chemrcal engrneer rn a large factory and hrs eyes were farlrng hrm rust a trrfle One day he poured gasolrne rnto a keg of gun powder and lrt a match to peek rn and see rf the gasolrne had damaged the powder Three seconds later he had Jomed us We thought sure rt was St Peter comrng for us when we looked up and saw Bud flyrng toward us I guess well have to wart for Pete a lrttle whrle longer but we re strll glad that Bud rs here The other ocralrte that came to our now enlarged group was George Grrmes George told us he was an automotrve body worker I berng a female hadnt the least rdea what he was talkmg about so I had to ask hrm He sard that rt was a dressed up name for a mechanrc tHe was a very good one loo Ill betll He worked qurte a whrle for a large company but eventually went rnto busrness for hrmsel As I remembered he was always trnkerrng wrth cars whrle rn hrgh school Everyone was glad to see George because he always was ready to laugh and wrllrng to work 1 . 1 1 ' -V , . 11 . . 11 ' 1 . 11 11 ' - 1 1 . . . . . 66155 ec? I guess the rage rn 54 was to be a secretary We had our share rn the Semor class too Marrlyn Brgham Marrlyn Holman and Ioyce Brgham were all secretarres before they were marrred Marrlyn Brgham was a secretary about frve years before she marrred a wealthy farmer It seems that whrle Marrlyn was rn hrgh school thrs farmer boy had worked for her dad Uust a case of marryrng the bosss daughterl She had three lovely chrldren and a house-full of frrends No greater complrment could be pard Marrlyn Holman was next and rf I remember rrqht she came from a large famrly fl'Ier mother was one Jump ahead of mme she had nrne krds and mme had erght It was close thoughll Marrlyn gave the transportatron people a lot of money before she dred It seems that she traveled qurte a brt and her brothers and srsters all wanted to go along and as I recall she always d1d everythrng she was told Well were glad she came rnto her own She traveled became a secretary and frnally marrred a guy named lack tHe was Presrdent of the G E plant rn Trffrnl Ioyce was the second teacher rn our class She taught speech rn a hrgh school for qurte awhrle and lrke our other two buddres was a secretary I dont know rf that teachrng was a good 1dea or not because we had some heated argu ments on Chaucer and Shakespeare rn Eng Lrt Ioyce and Yvonne really went at rt and Dallas went around talkrng lrke Hamlet untrl he talked rt rn his sleep tor so George Sald for hrs grave was rrght next to Dallassl The nurse s ranks Jorned us next wrth Etta Nrcholson as our Florence Nrqhtmgale Etta was marrred and took very good care of her husband and was Just content to be a housewrfe She took good care of us for the next few years Lrke the trme when Bob Stahl was dorng hrs darly marchrng and stepped mto an open grave and sprarned hrs toes and when Francis was grvrng a speech to Bob Murphy and got excrted and started swrngrng and socked hrmself on the Jaw and oh so many more thrngs that happened down through the ages that I dont even remember them all If my estrmates were correct we had four more senrors of 54 to Jorn us but I guessed wed Just have to wart for them Several years later we had the twenty frrst of our senrors Jom us I-le was Drck Stearns and he was commg up the path pullrng the largest hunk of junk I have ever seen After he had sard Hello no matter where he went he dragged thrs machrnery after hrm One day we frnally got rt out of hrm that rt was an arrplane motor and that he was an aeronautrcal enqrneer when he came to us and he wanted to fmrsh rt He hopes to have rt done when Pete gets here Our next arrrval tthe twenty secondl was Iohnny Strrff He strolled nonchalantly up to hrs shmy new rocker and began talkrng rrght away about how successful he became as a restaurant owner I-le talked and talked and we qot sleeprer and sleeprer untrl frnally Iohnny was talkrng to a bunch of sleeprng strffs I-Ie frnally ran down though and we all woke up tat the same trme tooll We asked Iohn rf he had a drshwasher for each of hrs restaurants and he sard yes and that hrs name was Robert Russell Smce thrs seemed entrrely rmprobable we asked hrm how thrs could be done He sard he had the frnest parr of roller skates rn the crty but then he told us that Bob had perfected an automatrc drshwasher Irt stood I2 ft hrgh and took an elevator to get the drshes to the topl Bob became qurte wealthy wrth hrs machme and mstalled rt rn every one of Strrffs Restaurants Speakrng of Bob he came our way the very next day He confrrmed all Iohnny sard but he told us hrs machme went on the blrnk and he got caught m the conveyor belt wrth the cups so he got a lrttle wet before he Jorned us but he sard now he knows what happens to a cup when rt gets cleaned Our graveyard was Just about full We had two more to go and we were hoprng our now famous Iackson ceme tery would be full of 54 graduates before St Peter came Our socral worker came next Vesta Kellar was the tall handsome lady that came up the steps to her rockrng charr She told us she had been a socral worker rn Fostorra and Toledo and surroundrng countrysrde She had done a lot of welfare domestrc and Juvenrle work She had a won derful way wrth chrldren as I had heard She marrred and had four of her own tall boysl but she strll found trme to help the less fortunate A wonderful Job for somebody wrth a Drq heart Well our farnrly was gettrng brgger now wrth but one more to go Our ranks numbered twenty three then and I Just couldnt remember who the other person was It es caped me for the moment but let me see rt had been thrrty years srnce I was the frrst to come here and my memory was escaprng me somewhat Then I remembered Carolyn Frsh was the onel Carolyn had qurte a trme get trng to school as I remember especrally rn our semor year She came drrvrng up to our place of resrdence rn a lrttle black Ford IBy golly rt looks lrke the one she had 30 years agol Carolyn told us she was rn the Womens Marrnes for a few years IIO to be exactl and a housewrfe the rest In the Marrnes she leamed a lrttle promptness and was never late for anythrng She kept thrs attitude durrng the rest of her lrfe and became more respected for rt At last we are all here and all assembled All twenty four of us ready for St Peter and the Iudgment Day We srt here and look at each other and wonder at the change rn our looks and actrons srnce the year we graduated It doesnt seem lrke so many years ago but trme goes too fast when you get out of school We warted one week after our last classmate arrrved then rn the black of nrght when everythrng was st1ll vorce came to us and told us to be ready the next nrght The followrng day there was a lot of laughrng and a few tears now and then as we thought of the ones who would go through the Pearly Gates and those who wouldnt The day stretched on mto early evenrng and as we warted a flamrng charrot came rnto vrew glrstenrng wrth gold shrn mg wrth the suns rays that were left rn the sky after the sun had gone down There was an angel rn the charrot a beautrful angel wrth a crownmg halo beckonrng toward us Beckonrng for us to come to Hlm and come we drd My classmates
