CLASS HISTORY OF I944 l94O-41? What is significant about these numbers? This has been a long time ago. Oh yes, everyone remembers that year. It was the fall of l940 that thirty-nine freshmen entered the doors of Jackson High. It wasn't long though until the greenness was removed and we settled down to work. With Miss Egnew as our advisor, the following officers were elected, President-James Mansfield, Vice Pres.-- Theresa Wonderly, Sec. and News reporter-Norma O'Toole, Treasurer-Alyce Mansfield, and Student Council Repre- sentative-Wilbur Master. Various members of our class joined the F. F. A., F. H. A., G. R., and Hi-Y and continued in these organizations for all four years. Robert Heiserman, Charles Gwiner, Wilbur Master, and Robert Snyder were on the reserve basketball team. Helen Meszaros was one of the cheerleaders. Paul Eddinger had a principal part in the Operetta. Robert Heiserman had a principal role in the Student Council Play. l94I-42 brought many new experience for the former freshmen. Why? We were now sophomores, thirty-five in number. Officers were, President- Theresa Wonderly, Vice Pres.-Robert Heiserman, Sec. and Treasurer-Wilbur Mast- er, Student Council Representative-Alyce Mansfield, Mr. Barnes was our advisor. Madolyn Nichols and Wilbur Master were on the Student Council. Robert Snyder and Madolyn Nichols had roles in the Student Council Play and Robert Heiserman had a role in the One-Act Play. James Mansfield and Madolyn Nichols were members of the debate team. Mary Jane Wohlgamuth and Marvelene Reeder were on the Newshound staff. Wilbur Master was on the varsity squad, while Charles Gwiner, Robert Heiserman and Robert Snyder made the reserves. Theresa Wonderly and Alyce Mansfield were cheerleaders. Robert Heiserman, Wilbur Master, Don Massie, and Don Kummerer made the track team and Charles Gwiner, Wilbur Master and Don Kummerer made the baseball team. l94I -42 brought many new experiences for the former 4O ? They were rapidly climbing the ladder of knowledge and were known as the Jolly Juniors with twenty-three in the class. Miss Boldry was our advisor, Our officers were, President-Wilbur Master, Vice Pres.-Robert Heiserman, Sec.-Joe Brickner, Treasurer--Cleoria Coleman, and Stu- dent Council Representative-Bernita Havens. This year brought new experiences. We presented our play Don't Darken My Door, received our class rings and gave 0 banquet. June Hughes was a member of the Student Council Play and Don Massie and Robert Heiserman were in the One-Act Play. Madolyn Nichols and June Hughes were members of the debate team. Wilbur Master had one of the leads in the operetta. Several members were officers of organizations, Mary Jane Wohlgamuth, secretary of the Student Council and also vice president of the G. R., Wilbur Master, vice president of the Hi-Y. Madolyn Nichols, Mary Jane Wohlgamuth, and June Hughes were on the Newshound staff. Several of the Juniors were successful in the quest for knowledge by becoming members of the County Honor Soci- ety. They were Robert Heiserman, Don Kummerer, Wilbur Master, Edna Perkins, Wilma Stump, June Hughes, Bernita Havens, Mary Jane Wohlgamuth, Madolyn Nichols, and Garland Aumaugher. Wilbur Master, Charles Gwiner and Robert Heiserman made the first ten, Wilbur becoming one of the first five. Don Massie was manager of the team. Joe Brickner, Charles Gwiner, Robert Heiserman, Don Kummerer, and Wilbur Master were on the baseball team. The last event of the year of great interest was the banquet which we gave at Findlay in honor of the Seniors. I943-44 brought us nearer the top of the ladder with the title of dignified Seniors, but I think you will recall there were times we weren't so dignified. We were right on hand for any good fun. Under Mr. Kettler's careful guidance as our advisor, we neared the top of the ladder. We had thirty-nine members as Freshmen and now have twenty graduates all of which were of the original thirty-nine. Officers this year were: President-Cleoria Coleman, Vice-President-Joe Brickner, Secretary-Bernita Havens, Treasurer-Mary Jane Wohlgamuth, Student Council Rep- resentative-Madolyn Nichols. The following members of our class were officers in the different organizations: Wilbur Master, president of the Student Council and Hi-Y, Mary Jane Wohlgamuth, Vice- President of the Student Council and President of the F.H.A., Garland Aumaugher, President of the Girl Reserves, Cleoria Coleman, Vice-President of G. R. and Treasurer of F.H.A., Mary Jane Wohlgamuth and Madolyn Nichols were members of the G. R. cabinet, Eileen McHaffie was Student Council Representative for the F.H.A., Don Massie was Vice- President for Hi-Y and F.F.A., and Joe Brickner was President of F.F.A. Many Seniors were members of these organizations. Madolyn Nichols was again a member ofthe debate team. ln the Student Council play Helen Meszaros, Wilbur Master, Madolyn Nichols, and Charles Gwiner had parts. Madolyn Nichols was editor of the Newshound. Mary Jane Wohlgamuth, Norma Jean O'Toole, Marvelene Reeder, and Wilbur Master were on the staff. Several members who were fortunate enough to be in the County Honor Society were: Wilbur Master, June Hughes, Madolyn Nichols, Eleanor Haughn, Cleoria Coleman, Mary Jane Wohlgamuth and Garland Aumaugher. On the first five of the basketball team were Wilbur Master, Joe Brickner, and Charles Gwiner. June Hughes and Helen Meszaros were cheerleaders. Now that our last year of high school has been finished, we still have not reached the top of the ladder which we so long ago started to climb. That last step seems the biggest and most important of all. -GARLAND AUMAUGHER CLASS PROPHECY The rain was coming down slowly and steadily, it was a dull evening so I decided that I would stay home and listen to the radio and retire early. Anyway, I wanted to hear my favorite radio program and so I was satisfied. I turned on my radio iust in time. Yes, Joe's voice brought back to me many memories and swell times I had, had at Jackson- Liberty. Joe Brickner, Famous Comedian-star of radio. lt was swell to know that Joe had made good--his jokes were still as bright as ever and kept his listeners well enter- tained. Then Joe announced that his guest star for the evening was the well known orchestra leader-Mary Jane Wohlgamuth. The last time I had heard from Mary Jane, she was attending the School of Music, in Chicago. She had told me then that she thought she would continue her music. What a day that was-we talked of the good old days of 44 . She also informed me that Theresa Wonderly had gained a position on the Trans-continental Air Lines from New York to Chicago as an air stewardess. As I wanted to see Theresa, I decided to wait until the following day. I arranged to meet her plane on time but had a rather hard time finding her. Finally, I found her and she told me all of her adventures which were very interesting. She told me that she had o surprise for me but we would have to go back to the plane. Sure enough, it was a surprise. I discovered that Wilbur Master was piloting that plane. Although I didn't get to talk to him very long I leamed that he had been a pilot in the Navy Air Corps during World War ll. He also told me of his wife and his little red haired daughter who were living back in Bascom. I promised him I would stop and see them on my way home. I kept my promise to Wilbur and stopped to see his family. They were living on a lovely farm. We talked and during our conversation we were well entertained by some of the pranks that little Margaret, performed. I asked her where she learned such tricks and she replied Jack showed me how. I was anxious to know who this Jack was because it recalled to my mind the Gwiner lad who was always up to Par on his wise tricks. Sure enough Mrs. Master told me that Charles was farming their farm for them. I had a little chat with him but I didn't want to keep him from his work so I hurried along my way. l still had a long ways to travel before I reached my home, which is in Detroit, and so I had a little time ta visit my old home town lKansasl, which had grown to be quite a place. I was alarmed to see the big changes that were made there. While looking into the air to see the tall buildings I ran right into my old friend Eleanor Haughn. We were so glad to see each other that I even forgot to excuse myself but I don't think she cared. She told me that she was Mrs. Chaney now and was raising a family of three. We were standing on the corner talking when a car went shizzing by. For a while I was speechless-but she told me
