Her sponsor- ship of our class contributed immensely to the small successes we attained as seniors. She has in every way possible helped us to prepare ourselves for the many problems which are certain to come to each of us in the years ahead. FRITZ E. MARTIN Jewelers Union City, Indiana 10 % CLASSES Senior It doesn't seem so long ago that we were all entering high school, but it was way back in 1950. Many things have been accomplished by our class since then. In our freshman year we became accustomed to high school with all its responsibilities and fun. In our sophomore year we got our class sweaters, black with red letters, and chose our class rings. As Juniors we felt a little more important since this was our year to receive our rings, to give the Junior- Senior Prom, to present our first 12 Officers class play, Bill’s Night Out, and to begin seriously to raise money to take a senior trip. And now the year 1953-1954 has come and we are about to leave J. H. S. to take our places in the world. We have given our Senior Class Play Brother Goose and are now looking forward to graduation and our Senior Class trip to New York City and Washington, D. C. Well, it's almost time for us to leave, so goodbye, everybody, and take good care of J. H. S. DWANNA SNYDER Vice-President ANSONIA LUMBER COMPANY George L. R. 5 Union City, Indiana 36 Marching Band The band started the 1953 season by playing and marching in the Memorial Day Parade at Union City. As usual the band played at the Great Darke County Fair on Tuesday. The band was invited with other schools in the county to march and play for the Centennial Celebration at the fairground. The last march- ing trip for the season was when the band journeyed to Bradford for the Pumpkin Show. During the Basketball season, the band played as a pep band for three games. The school board purchased an oboe, a pair oftympani, a tenor saxophone, and a baritone for the mu- sic department. The band will start the 1954 season by taking part in the Tri-band Festival in April at Union City. The graduating Senior band members will receive music awards from the music department. R. Looking back, the things we accomplished this year are as follows: The officers went to the officer's training school at Greenville. The F.H.A. girls attended the Annual County F.H.A. Rally at Franklin-Monroe. The carry- in supper for the mothers, formal initiation, installation of officers, informal initiation and the Farmer's Institute came next. To make money we have sold shampoo, home-made cookies, candy and flavoring. We had a Beautiful Baby Contest to make money also. For the kitchen we have purchased a set of silverware and an electric mixer. The junior and senior girls went on a trip to Dayton and went through Rike’s Department Store. We are going to make drapes for the offices and beautify the teacher’s lounge. We feel we have accomplished a lot this year and hope to do the same next year. The FFA Chapter of Jackson School was very active this year under the guidance of Mr. Franklin George. Ten boys spent a week’s vacation at Camp Muskegon, Ohio, during the summer of 1953. A group of boys represented the chapter at the state, district, and the county judging contest and participated in the county parliamentary procedure contest. The money making projects for the year were a scrap drive, seed selling, and magazine selling. The chapter chose Miss Mary C. Stammen as the chapter's sweetheart for the school year. She represented the group at the State Fair in the State Queen Contest. The Jackson Chapter went through the community and solicited corn and grain for the 1954 Farmer's Institute. This helped to defray the expenses of the Institute and provided prize money for the best exhibits. The graduating members of the FFA wish the organization every success in the years to come.
