Some are just beginning their school days while others are graduating. Our present Jackson Public School System was founded in 1906. Since that time, Jackson High School has been placed on the list of approved first class high schools. The high school building was erected in 1920 and in 1928 a gymnasium and extra classrooms were added. In 1939, a stadium and an elementary school were erected. The grade school building has a modern auditorium with a seating capacity of 614. In 1952, the Music Arts Building was added to our public school system. The kindergarten was added in 1951, and the eighth grade was moved to the high school building. In 1952 our school system changed to the six-six plan with both the seventh and eighth grade in the high school. Our high school is a AAA school. On March 12, 1953, a 5275, 000 bond issue was approved by the voters for the purpose of adding new classrooms and a new gymnasium, which are now in use. On May 17, 1955, another bond issue was passed amounting to 3500, 000. The purpose was to build new schools in Gordonville and Burfordville, remodel the Pocahontas and Fruitland schools, build another Jackson school behind the Annex, and add additional classrooms to the high school.
