Sgt.-at-Arms 5 .1 Seniors at last! lt seems as though the highest aim of a high school student is to be- come a senior. The last year of high school is a busy one for a senior. In the fall, football absorbed the interest of most seniors. Twenty members of the class were on the varsity team, and six of them placed on the all-county team. To the Class of 56 was given the honor of sponsoring the first program in the new auditorium. A play, Buy Iupiter was very successfully presented on November 18. The swishing of dresses sounded a brushy accompaniment to the music of Paul Bingley and Orchestra at the Senior Prom. This Christ- 0,35- Q- mas dance was held on December 28, at Wil- lowdale Club House. After the dance every- one went to the Park Theatre in North Canton to see a movie. Soon after Christmas vacation, exams were upon all. Following exams, all happenings seemed to focus upon graduation. Measuring for caps and gowns, ordering name cards and announcements, writing the class will, history. and prophecy, scholarship tests, and selection of a college or university all consumed the time of the Seniors. As a finale to twelve years of school. the class of 1956 were privileged to be the first to graduate in the new Iackson auditorium. ffawe dead.. Upon Florence As a She has MRS. The Y-Teens is a Christian organization devoted to creating better relations among all races, religions and nationalities. All high school girls are eligible to become members of this club. A Iackson Y-Teen is a member of her own Y-Teen club, the Massillon YWCA, the YWCA of the U.S.A., and the World's YWCA. This year there were, for the first time, four separate clubs. Edna Metz Houstie Lemasters .,. , . . .Iudy Stark Phil Gross, Sondra Iones, and Alan Zink listen as Rochelle Ramga confesses that she placed an order without the manager's consent. Kay is a young and attractive toy buyer for a large store. A game-craze swept the country last year and toy sales were ex- tremely high. Now they're down, and Kay is getting the blame. Find another craze she's told. Her younger sister, Betty, return- ing from school, couldn't help but overhear the conversation from where I stood . Where she stood was on the back of Ioe, the stock boy, who elevated her to a point of vantage. Betty, realizing that her older sister is in serious trouble decides to do something about it. A humorous character named Fizz Foster arrives to sell Kay an order of Iupiters eintlated rubber rabbits that are supposed to talk. The talking aspect of the rabbit, however, is a fake. Betty persuades her sister to invest a sizable amount ot the store funds in buying a large supply ot these rabbits, She is rushed into paying for them without stopping to consult Hank Hughes, who heads the new products inspection department and who is in love with Kay. They decide they have to DO something-somehow create a craze for these dumb-bunnies ! Kay's job is saved for the moment by Ioe's hiding in a delivery cart parked next to Iupiter . He gives the bunny a new voice while Betty supplies the visual demonstration. They start a buying craze that rocks the town! The Iupiter craze brings confusion to Ioyce's Department Store. The Iackson Times is a lithographed news- paper which is published monthly for eight months and bimonthly in May. The last issue is dedicated to the departing seniors. The paper is run entirely by students with the assistance of the faculty advisor. A student may become a reporter his Freshman year and from there he may advance according to ability. All phases of school life are covered by the staff: sports, assemblies, social events, club news, grade news, and the honor roll. A finished copy of the Times brings a great deal of satisfaction to the student reporters, edi- tors, artists and photographers, whose coopera- tive efforts make the paper possible. 58 VIHST ROW Gayle Pettay, Iiifly Fensteimaker. An effort has been made to eliminate or change many of the formal, posed pictures and to include pictures of school life and events and general informality throughout the book. This was aided by the purchase of a press camera. Planning for the book began just before school started. This continued through September, October, and November while pictures were being taken and the advertising was sold. After the main plan of the book was established, the staff began to write the copy for organizations and captions for the pictures. A stress has been placed on interesting and entertaining write-ups. After Christmas vacation, the pictures began to come back and the work of inserting the final details, cropping pictures, and combining the copy with them was done. The book was completed on March 15. arnerrrrnn around school this Alan Zrrik The Annrrzrl Statt to.r.rht this crown graphic Carrera which .s t. to secure oritfic spot pictures ot school lite and activities which could not have bm-n trrkeri by our studio photographer AD SALESMEN Ronny Puente, Bob Willa- man, Alan Zink, Phil Gross, Kenny Etter, Owen Secoy, Bill Dessecker, Houstie Lernasters, Pat Bowen. VARSITY SQUAD Like Ole Man River, the Polar Bears rolled on and on, Coach Bob Fife fielded the most powerful team this year that Iackson has ever had. Practice began on August 20, with twenty seniors re- turning, some for their second, third, and fourth year as lettermen. Practice was hard those first few weeks. and very soon the season was under way, The team started in fine style by steam-rollering Uhrichsville 61-O. This was the beginning so necessary toward a successful season, The boys had started as a well balanced, determined unit. Against Orrville the Bears scored a 27-0 revenge in one of the most important games of the season. Next, Iackson defeated their third foe, Sandy Valley 58-6 in the first league game. The following week Middlebranch visited our gridiron to receive the short end of a 33-6 score. By this time our team had begun to show the potentialities which it had. The big, undefeated Navarre team awaited Iackson on October 14. This was perhaps the game of most interest this season. But Iackson rolled again, decisively defeating Navarre 44-7. Standing at the top of the Stark County League. Iack- son met and defeated Northwest 52,0 for the fourth league win. The next team to come was probably the one we knew the least about and feared the most. But our boys proved that they were not daunted by the reputation or size of Springfield Twp. Iackson won the game 45-0. Talk of an undefeated season began to circulate as the last two games of the season approached. The third county championship in a row and the first undefeated. untied season in the school's history lay ahead. but so did Iaclison's biggest rival, North Canton. Never to be scoffed at, North Canton appeared to bo a real threat to our team's record. They scored the first touchdown of the game. It was also their last. With their heart set on vzctory and their efforts mustered in one team effort, the Polar Bears stomped North Canton 60-7. The last game was a league contest with East Canton, and would definitely decide for us the county champion- ship. The score: Iackson 73 - East Canton 0. This was the completion of an unmarked season in which the Polar Bears compiled a total of 453 points. while holding their opponents to 26. Iackson finished with a rating of twenty-third in the state. These facts are certainly an account of the tremendous power, desire. and teamwork of the 1955 Iackson Polar Bears. .,..-'.... ,ey fwJ?,.i..jzf,.g5,.
