HY 2,3,4, Basketball li Baseball fn A SENIOR SKETCH Television has a knack for displaying the unusual. -This was the thought that passed through the woman's mind as she watched a play taking place in the dream world. The people acted as natural among the misty clouds as on solid earth. It was late and as she watched the screen her eyelids droopped, her head nodded. She made one last effort to stay awake and gazed at the screen. The figures blurred and then became distinct. But each actor had assumed the form of a 'Sl Senior. As she noted each familiar face, unforgettable characteristics came to her mind. There was Mary M. with a sign on her back boosting the team. If you want spirit, she always has it. With her is Joanne, a girl with the courage of her convictions, a valuable friend. A rollicking cloud comes into sight with laughter pealing forth. The cause of it all is June M. The giggling girls lounging about her are: Arlene, who is forethought and has a gen- uine interest in you, Anna D., always laughing and the possessor of some wonderful religious theories, Dorothy, with a demure appearance but a contradictory gleam in her eye, Nancy, who loves to draw and has some jokes of her own, and affectionate Dolores, whom you can't help but like. Stepping through the dreamy mists is Bar- bara with a perplexed brow. One of her famous questions is in the making. Occupied thus, she passes between Roland and a television set resting on another cloud. Having been inter- rupted from his favorite pastime, he makes one of his suitable, humorous remarks. Bumping along is a cloud which John Maurer, a star athlete, is driving. Riding in it are: Allen, who has the quietness to go with his vocation of farming, Looie, as out-standing football player whom fate plotted against, Don, really a quiet guy but with a sense of humor, and Ray M., who is always in some kind of es- capade. There's an odd bright spot over there. So that's whyl Pat E. has a sparkle in her eye to match the one on her finger. Another diamond also increases the brilliance. lt belongs to June G., the girl who loves to argue. Then on the cloud just coming into sight are three girls, who were usually seen working in the school office, Patty J., the sweet school secretary for l95l-1952, Sue, a quiet girl who is interested in the career of nursing, and Ann, a friendly girl with a pleasing personality. Sitting off on a higher cloud are three more girls who are eating chocolate creamsickles and listening to Jerry vigorously uphold the merits of wedded bliss. The three are: Helen Blile, whose main love is roller skating and she's a whiz at it, Donna, who always has some witty remark, and Helen G., who is always cheerful and makes you that way too. Wisecracks are flying fast and furious from two speeding clouds. Encompassed in them are, naturally, Clyde and Dick S., the inseparable two. lt quickly passes a lolling cloud on which reclinine Dave and Paul, two boys who whole- heartedly believe in living and making merry. Not to be by-passed is the misty vehicle on which Dick P., the boy with ability and sincer- ity, Tom, an all-around athlete and master of tact, Jack M. who makes the strangest sounds and has the ability to liven things up, Jim, who enjoys music and does a lot of daydreaming, are all listening to John Murphy weild his remark- able ability with the English language. Strolling along are two dark-haired boys, Ronnie is discussing some class problems with Junior who seems to be preoccupied lprobably thinking about one of the underclassmen he gets along with so welli. Also walking through the mist is Jack F., who loves to ram around in his Ford, and Bruce, always smiling and ready with an answer. Not far behind are: Alyce, a capable leader and she always has ideas, Bonnie, who has a certain graciousness and is someone you like to talk to, Beverly, our majorette who is always there ready to lend a helping hand, Mary Catherine, always dependable and with quite a few responsibilities, Elaine, who has a hidden layer of devilishness and also stands by what she believes, and Janet, who is resting from energetic cheerleading. All of them are engros- sed in conversation. Also pondering class problems are two offi- cers, Audrey, our sweet and petite queen, and prettv, conscientious Phyllis. The picture starts to fade out as it does a quartet of faces are noticable. They belong to Anna B., usually quiet except in study hall, Glorene, who has a way with men, Janice, with a friendly smile in her eyes besides on her lips, and Helen Berrisford, always willing to co- operate. There is a cloud on which are three boys who made the long climb with the rest but didn't finish with them. They are: Ray P., who has a job, Glen, serving in the Armed Worces, and Stan, who moved to the sunny state of Florida. When the picture had entirely faded, the woman sat there a few moments longer. Then she realized the station had gone off for the night. Slowly, Mrs. Hyde got up and with a dreamy smile wondered again over the unusual- ness of television and the Class of '5l which she will always remember as a grand class. PHOTOGENIC SENIOR Phyllis Iohnson was chosen by the staff of the Troup Studio as the most photoqenic senior of 1951. 21 SENIOR CLASS PLAY George WashingtonyS1ept Here yy The Senior play was presented on April 20, l95l, lt was liked and enjoyed by Everyone. If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings-nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much: If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And-which is more-you'll be a Man, mv son!
