LE' I 11 V I ' A . :H ? -- L ' with it the fi:-At day of Aclwol og,-H A daily gathering place is at the lockers. Each morning finds a group at the center stairs of the three fioors, the group membership changing slightly from year to year. This year the tradition of the lockers was broken with a new ruling from the ofiice, say- ing that all lockers shall be assigned according to the location of the home- rooms. At the beginning of the year many students came to school only to find their locks had been removed for being on the wrong lockers. But once habit is broken, it is soon forgotten. As the day begins and ends students pass through the main lobby beneath the tower. This lovely and impressive part of the school is seen and frequently used by the community, also, for the various programs which are held in the auditorium. An often heard phrase is, I'll meet you at the tower en- trance. We were cenfawed lm t, excited +?,.ig?i, 7 ,,v ,:! Before homeroom and before fifth period the bookstore is open, providing a place where students can buy every- thing for their school needs, for less. There is almost always a line of stu- dents patiently awaiting their turns, and occasionally Miss Anderson, who is in charge of the bookstore, must help out. At any time during the day, whether they're busy or very busy, the ladies in the administration oflices can be de- pended upon for helpful and polite answers to almost any problem. The ladies are seldom left alone to do their work, but are constantly answering students',' teachers', or visitors' ques- tions. and glad tv 6e Mak. The Jackson High cafeteria can be commended for the quality and quan- tity of food which is sold each noon. Room 25 is filled with studying, talk- ing and laughing students from high school and Junior College. Because of the great number of students who use room 25, or the Social Room, during the day, it is a favorite place to put campaign posters. The tables and chairs can be cleared out or pushed aside for dances and dinners, and the court just outside the Social Room is used for the spring and early fall parties. Some students study in study hall. But mostly students use room 225 for gossiping, just talking, laughing, throw- ing paper wads, and combing hair. In the morning study hall is used for a homeroom, and at noon students are free to come in to study under the more strict teachers, or to enjoy their friends under the other teachers. Gen- erations and generations of names are etched into the desktops for posterity's sake. FUI fir 7 ,gp f .. yvxtwc., . 5 WM.-W .,wff1g' V ,wt Q 1 K -. v-vvvv-rvvv ,.... Wally. 5 be ,, . Dressel, as principal and assistant principal of Jackson High School, are highly respected citizens and leaders in our community. Therefore it was a great blow to the school and to Jackson when Mr. Dressel became ill in December and didn't resume his usual duties for the rest of the year. The loss was more acutely felt, perhaps, by Mr. Hol- man, whose already too-great a burden was increased even more. Mr. Holman, busier than ever, still found time to be very helpful in Student Government and in many other of Mr. Dressel's projects. One of the most important factors in making Jack- son High such an outstanding school are the eighty- WINIFRED ADAMS B.A.-U. of Michigan English GERALD BARNETT A.B.-Indiana U M.A.-U of Alabama History, American Gov't. Intemational Relations four wonderful people on the faculty. Our faculty, graciously answering the demands upon the modern teacher, are frequently called upon to advise various groups, be present during the decorating for a party, chaperone, hall guide, do guard duty in study hall at noon, and star in the great productions of the magazine assemblies. All this in addition to the facultyls capacity as molder and enlarger of the minds of tomorrow. Five faculty members have been specially trained to counsel and advise the students. Two new offices were made for the counselors at the end of the east corridor on the first floor. This is another effort to answer the needs of the high school student. Judy Stewart is one of the fortunate few who were born with natural qualities of leadership. People have always respected and admired Judy for her wonderfully wami personality, her ability, and her trait of unconsciously setting examples which many strive to follow. lt was to be expected, then, that Judy was elected by her school to be Vice President in her Senior year. Judy was a cheerleader all the way through intermediate and high school, and was elected not only to the Student Representative Assembly in her Sophomore year, but to Student Council, also. A characteristic of Judy is to excel in almost anything she attempts, and five thousand people enjoyed Judy's tap dancing in Viking this year. Judy Stewart will be a legend at JHS, because of her dependability and accomplishments as a person, as a student, as a friend, and as a Vice President of the Student Body. and Jack office:-A uf tlce Student Kodq.
