Dream Team Members of the Cross Country Team were: T. Griffiths. M. Griffiths. J. Coffey. A. Asbury, S. Spencer. K. Henderson. K. Dearing, J. Leach. T. Leach. S. Dear-ing. and S. Lanhart. Manager was J. Roberts. We watched them practice after school, running up, down, and around the streets of town. They ran in the heat of the sun. in cool cloudy weather, and even under skies that threatened rain and that delivered the wet stuff. Tom Griffiths. Most Valuable Player, was outstanding as he finished first in every race of the season, set a new JHS individual record of 16:17, was named to the All-SEOAL team and was the school's first male runner to advance to the state cross country meet. Senior Scott Spencer was honored as the Most Inspirational Runner. Spencer's competitive and enthusiastic spirit kept everyone on the move. New Faces Make Up Young Squad Members of the 7th and 8th grade cheerleading squad were: Front: K. Cooper, S Boroff. Center: M. Stevenson, G. Scott, T Mercer, K. Fields, S. James. Back: K. Rose. The cheerfeaer (excerpts from the Akron JOURNAL) She yells, she screams, she flips, she Jumps, she plans and she hurts. But she's happy because she's a cheer- I ondor lUVJUvl . . . If her team wins, she jumps around and squeals as if it had Just won the state championship. Tears of pride spring to her eyes as she watches her team walk victoriously off the field or court. A cheerleader is looked up to by other students in the school. Thus, she must set a good example for them to follow. A cheerleader's Job is not an easy one, and the only reward she has is the satisfaction of knowing that she helped cheer her team on to victory, or stood by them in defeat The cheerleader is truly an unsung hero, and deserves the same admiration, cooperation and praise as the team she cheers for.
