Everyone knows that a H| cheerleader s mam jobs are B| to generate spirit and to root |8 the team onto victory How- B| ever, a look behind the H scenes shows the Ironmen B| Cheerleaders busy at their B| many other duties also They 8| are responsible for the foot- B| ball and basketball pro- H grams, spirit and runthrough B| signs, and decorating for the §8 banquets. H This was a year of H achievement for the squads 111 At cheerleading camp the R| Varsity Squad received one B| excellent and three superior H| ratings and were selected to H| compete in the Award of Ex- B| cellence Competition. This is 8| a competition open only to B| the top seven squads select- |S ed by camp instructors. The R| Varsity Squad also received B| a fourth place in the annual B| Apple Festival Competition. M Fans watching the Ironmen Cheerleaders might have noticed some differences this year. This was the first year that an eight member squad had been selected. In previous years only six members were selected. Fans might also have noticed that the cheerleaders did not do any pyramids at games This stemmed from a recommendation from the Ohio High School Athletic Association which was adopted by the SEOAL for safety reasons. A new head cheerleader advisor led the squad with two new assistants to the cheerleading program. Mrs. Sherry Headley was assisted by Mrs. Pam Evans and Mrs. Nina Rose, all of the JHS faculty. One thing didn't change though; the enthusiasm and support they used to cheer on the Ironmen through the seasons of athletic competition. 22 Varsity Cheerleaders
