Senior Play On March 27, the Senior Class of 1953 presented one of the finest plays ever given at Jackson High School. Music and script were from the original Broadway production Annie Get Your Gun by Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers, and Oscar Hammerstein II. Annie Oakley, played our own Mary Esther Gordon, a shy awkward little girl from Darke County, Ohio, who tries throughout the whole play to dazzle Frank Butler, the tall, broad-shouldered, and completely handsome champion sharpshooter of the world. Frank Butler is played very capably by Rodney Warner. Frank and Annie have a shooting match in Cincinnati in which Annie defeats Frank and makes Frank notice her for the first time. The play progresses with trouble brewing between the two rival Wild West Shows of Buffalo Bill and Pawnee Bill. Buffalo Bill, who is in financial trouble needs something new to catch the public's fancy. They decided to give Annie a spectacular stunt—to make her a star. Poor, unsophisticated Annie thinks Frank will be surprised and delighted. Instead he is outraged. He feels she has tricked him. In the midth of the congratulations and excitement, a letter arrives from Frank. He is leaving the show and is joining Pawnee Bill's Wild West Show. Both Annie and Frank are miserable at the separation, and their separate shows are both having financial troubles. Other members of the troupe try to get them back together again. Everything seems to be going wonderfully, when the old argument bursts out once again—which is the best shot. Charlie Davenport, Buffalo Bill's Manager, arranges a shooting match for the two. Chief Sitting Bull, realizing that if Annie wins the match she'll lose Frank, tells Annie you can't get a man with a gun. Annie, finally realizing this, loses the match and wins Frank in return. Another added attraction was the chorus girls who performed several times between the scenes. The play was under the capable direction of Miss Clara Leasure. Hats off to the cast and director for a wonderful performance. ANNIE GET YOUR GUN CAST 29 ANNIE OAKLEY ......... FRANK BUTLER ......... BUFFALO BILL .........
