We can never realize how much work these girls have to do. Writing absence slips, typing, filing, answering many questions making out schedules and answering many questions from inquisitive students-these are but- a few of the tasks they do daily. These girls not only work during the school term but in the summer as well. We can't imagine how they get all this work done so efficiently but their work speaks for itself. In our school, this government takes form in the Student Council. This organization, composed ct' one representative from each home room, has done an excellent job this year in bringing about different reforms, and also an increase in the students' inter- est in the school. This organization, under the supervision of Mel- bra Thornton, has just completed a, successful year in the service of our school. S0 it is with pride, then, that we look to this group as able representatives of Jackson High School. President , ,, , ,, Pat Helms Vice President ., Judy Williams Secretary , , Jean Jenkins Treasurer , Gene Phillips x '99 MR. THORNTON, Principal As you enter the high school, one of the first persons you meet is our very capable principal, Mr. Thornton. Mr. Thornton ac- cepted the position of principal five years ago and has served as the students' guiding hand since that time. Before he received the position of prin- cipal, he served several years as a govern- ment teacher and a history teacher in our high school. He has been well liked by every- one who has had the pleasure of making his acquaintance. He is always willing to aid students who stop at the office for his as- sistance. He is gifted in ironing out one's troubles in a short time and making one feel as if one had accomplished it himself. To the students, Mr. Thornton is truly the guiding hand of their lives. MR. KEAIRNS-Assist. Principal Mr. Keairns, our assistant principal, teaches chemistry, physics and mathematics. Besides these duties, he is advisor of the Osky-Wow staff. Mr. Keairns obtained his Bachelor of Sci- ence degree in chemistry as well as his Mas- ter of Arts degree in school administration from Ohio University. We are fortunate to have such a wonder- ful teacher on our staff whom everyone knows as a true friend. Pdqe SBVBII ,..- f,,,, ARZELLA BAKER-A. B., Rio ERNESTINE BIBLER.-B.S. Delivering messages and absence blanks, writing excuses and other forms, typing and many other duties are ably performed by these girls. 1 . Each and every member of this staff deserves the credit for making these things possible. page thirteen 7 TH GRADE This year We came feeling proud to be students of J.H.S. We wondered if we would ever find our way around the halls. The teachers, detention, absence, and tardy slips were new to us. We usually were kept after school, and when we were absent we were just asked why. But now we are almost through the seventh grade and we wonder what the eighth has in store for us. Many interesting programs have been presented this year. For these programs, valuable speakers have presented talks to the boys. The Hi-Y has initiated several meetings combining the Girl Reserves with them. For example, the Hi-Y and Girl Reserve Clubs enjoyed a very interesting talk by Reverend Paul Wachs. Later in the year both clubs were informed about safety while driving, by Patrolman McMana- way. These meetings were all arranged and planned by the I-Ii-Y Club. - This organisation also sponsored a formal dance on April 2. Members of former Hi-Y Clubs as well as this year's club were invited. The music was provided by Thorson's Orchestra. The advisor for the 1947-48 club was Mr. John Finch. 'Q-basl? E 4-.1 'K , . T, ,f V if , , F3 41 W '90- First Row-F. Leedy, B. Jones, R. Rice, B. Where's Anna Mae and Jim? How many papers go to 112? Please let me take them to Mr. Semple's room, Sigh! No-you took his last time. I'll take them. Hurry up. Gee whiz! It's almost time to go and these papers are not folded yet. If you've been in Mr. Davis' office last period when The Skeleton comes out, you'll know that these are some of the remarks and this is a general idea of the fun and confusion. A Every few weeks a publication is issued containing school news, gossip, feature stories, editorials, fashion articles, a word from the administration, original work from the students, news from other school buildings of Jackson, and just a little bit of everything. All the year around students are watching and listening for choice bits of news and ideas for fea- tures. Then the time limit for write-ups is setg the typists go to work, the last minute buzzing around is done and at last it is ready to be sent to the printer. Then after The Skeleton is sent back to us, it's one mad scramble to get the papers out to the stu- dents. So keep up the good work and the good news! This being quite a task it has fallen into the hands of a group of well selected, able students. Q In order to accomplish this task a great deal of the students' time must be spent at it. There are copies to get in, typing to be done, pictures to be taken cut and mounted and man , , y other tasks. It is only through diligence and hard work that this book can be made possible. This year band practice started on Aug- ust 1. This was to prepare for the coming football season. Dui ing football season, along with playing for home games and out of town games, they played at the Apple Festi- val every night. After football season came the basketball games which were enlivened at the half by a snappy band. This year for the first time they made trips to Beaver, Blackfork, Jefferson, etc. to play concerts for these towns. The year was climaxed by the Band concert on April 2, the Variety Show, May 5, and the Band Party on May 7. They have done a wonderful job and I am sure you will all agree that we students, as well as the citizens of our town, owe Mr. Thorson and his hard working band I1 vote of gratitude.
