The counselors of the three cabins in this unit are: Miss Crossin, Miss Grimes and Miss Matheny. Many clubs are in the years program. The Freshmen unit joins the Sophomore unit for the Senior Dramatic Club with Counselor Mildred Fisher as leader. Many students, who are interested in dramatics, have joined this club. Another club is the Biology Club under the leadership of Counselor John Hughes. No settlement would be complete without music—Professor H. G. Neeley is in charge of the Music Club. For the social side of life the Sophomore unit holds its annual party at the main lodge. This is the big event of the year. Parties of the various clubs are also held at the lodge. JUNIOR CLASS PLAY ‘'Guess Again”, a comedy drama in three acts, was presented by the Junior Class, December 3, 1937, in the High School Auditorium under the direction of Miss Margaret Matheny. When the curtain was opened at 8 P. M. there was Sol Messer, a movie magnate and Lulu, a big-league newspaper columnist, Renee Lamour, one of Hollywood’s most ambitious chiselers, ‘‘Soak ’em-Hard” Pratt, about to foreclose on old Grimes, the hotel proprietor, and Waldo Fitts, porter and general nuisance, and Mrs. Skinner, who is as 1890-ish as the law will allow, and her fresh young daughter, Dora Mae, and Olive Ordway, who eats raw cauliflower and is ready on a moment’s notice to teach anyone the uplift walk, and Janet Moore, the comeliest of college sweethearts, and Bill Douglas without a dime but with a head full of ideas—mostly about Janet, and Marcella Jenks, an ambitious news hawk, and four Lord Wiggletons. The entire action-took place, in the course of one summer day, in the lobby of Edgewater Inn, a small hotel at a Southern California seaside resort. ' 1 JACKSON J VISITORS tut DOWN PENALTY YAR FOOTBALL Jackson High opened its Gridiron Campaign for the season in impressive fashion. The Red Devils filled with red blood spirit, and under the most capable coaching of Hadley E. Watts, Jackson’s new coach, downed the Waverly Tigers to a score of 32-0. The next week the Red Devils made their first road trip to Lancaster, where the Jackson eleven was out-classed, and came home with a defeat of 13-0.' This was their first taste of opposition and they were unable to meet it. The following week found our team on home soil where they clashed with the Gallipolis team and held them to a 0-0 score. Eager for competition the Reds went to the Capitol City where they met the Columbus South team and a hard fought game ended 18-10, Columbus at the wheel. The entire team played well and the laurels were handed to Bill Kuhner, our left half back, for his perfected field goal from the 35 yard stripe. The Middleport team came to our home field with a rather weak team and was defeated by the Jackson Eleven. The Yellow Jackets was no match for the locals at any time and they went buzzing home with a 65-0 defeat. Athens was the next victim and the Jacksonians showed the Bull Dogs the act of ball carrying and crossed the pay stripe three times with a final score of 19-0. The next week the Reds went to Logan where they were brought down by a neat passing attack to a tune of 7-0, and on the following Friday was defeated by the Chillicothe team 28-7. The Red Devils then played Pomeroy on foreign soil where they outplayed the favored Pomeroy team 13-12. In this game the Reds were on the small end until the final period where they crushed the defensive wall for the winning points. On frozen soil the Jackson team met the Wellston Golden Rockets on “turkey day” where the Rockets scored two touchdowns and in the final minutes Bill Kuhner dug his cleats in the dirt and ran eighty yards for the locals only score. The game ending 12-7. Team, you won four, lost five, and tied one. Although you did not receive league laurels you played well and I’m sure the school keeps saying, “Team and coach, we’re proud of you”. “Jumbo” Evans and “Babe” Loney of the Senior Class were named honorary captains by their teammates. Joe Savey earned a letter as manager. The next week the locals held the Columbus Central to a score of 38 to 42. Two games went by and the following game found our team in the local cage where a 25-26 thriller with Athens was witnessed—Babe Loney our first string forward looped 10 points of the Jackson score. Jackson after winning two of their games before the attact of the Logan team, made a wonderful showing against the South Eastern league Champions, holding them to the tune of 26-28—In this game Pete Loney our local forward played his last game for dear old Jackson. He played an excellent game against the Logan lads leaving for Jackson a high point honor of 10 points. Pete's withdrawal from interscholastic basketball was a distinct loss to our team. The next game we defeated our rival city of Wellston five 37-15 and still in winning place defeated the Middleport team 29-27—Bradford sinking 12 points in the hard fought game. Bob Gast and Leslie Rhodes tied for foul shot honors during the games. Although we did not take top-notch league honors, we hand the laurels to Coach Watts for his remarkable coaching throughout the season. Left to Right Top Row.
