The squad usually travels to the cinder gatherings held at Beatrice and Crete, plus the Greater Lincoln League, state, and the traditional dual meets. This year Jacksons hall of fame was increased by one when George Knight, sophomore, mustered all his forces and hurled the javelin 171 feet, 9 inches shattering a moss covered state mark. This throw exceeded any ol his former tries by more tthan twenty feet. Another ti. L. I.. crown ltr uthley Taylor Souders Smith ' was bestowed upon jackson by virtue of the track squad. The jackson high tennis team took to the clay courts in the latter part of April and in short order made their names an every day expression in state raquet wielding circles. Taylor and Souders ascended the state prep doubles throne May 11 after a typhoon-like attack on the best tennis combinations of Nebraska. This was the second championship of its kind during Coach lieechnens regime. Not to belittle the remainder of the net squad and the golfers. all of whom qualified and shone in the state meet. But keeping in mind the fact that every team must lose a game some time, Jackson regained its confidence and eclipsed a victory at the hands of Cathedral 33-19, February 22, also clinching the Greater Lincoln League trophy. Only to be content with a clean slate in G. L. L. competition, the Crimson again routed College View 44-19 on February 23. The close of the regular playing season found Jackson succumbing to Lincoln on March 1, 22-19, playing with the loss of two regulars. Now came the crowning glory of the season, when Jackson was one of the three teams of the state invited Tournament. On the first step by to the Nebraska State March 13 they made defeating Norfolk 20-12, but after a due 'to overcon- ousted by Falls one point mar- season with one lead in the first half, fidence, Jackson was City March 14, by a gin, 20-21, ending the of the most impressive records ever to be compiled by a Jackson team. l35l - O ,J , , , I J , I , jf- , 1 Ji-:AN Wonr , Jinior 3 Fogward , l HENRY HARTMA Manager tif ,- I 1 HALPH.
