.ORCH ESTRA. The future of the Jackson High Orchestra is bright, because over fifty per cent of its members this year are junior high students The orchestra has performed as the between- act entertainment at plays, operettas and con- vocations, under the direction of Miss Miller. Second semester a band was organized under the able direction of Mr. Welch. It is a nucleus from which should develop a much needed pep instigator. Wymore, Gates, Harrold, Lewis, Jackson lilclri-d, Iund, Hollingsworth, lVlcVey, Spooner. Iund Fitch, Gates, Craycraft, Brown, Kimbro, Robertson Worden. ML-dlar, Jackson, Baugh, Schon, Hunter, Bryan Organized to create fellowship among the athletes of Jackson and thereby to maintain standards of true sportsmanship and 'team cooperation, the J club is enjoying its fifth successful year of existence. During this time it has made forty-seven public appearances, given four operettas, competed in four state music con- tests, produced nineteen winning vocal solo- ists for the district music contest, four girls small groups that have rated either super- ior or excellent , four boys quartets and two mixed octets. The operettas presented: Campus Daze , 'tLady of the Terrace , Chonita and The Flower of Venezia . Student accompanists:-Jean Taylor, Les- lie Nordgren, Warren Hammel, and Jean Carter. The members of the society are chosen by the faculty from those students whose school standing places them in the upper one third of the senior class. The four ' basic requisites are scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
