Professor Arndt, Pauli's father, who is an instructor in the University of Vienna, believes in Carl's theory of war, and urges him to finish and rewrite the play even though it has been rebuked by the prof ducers. Bruce Gordon, a young Englishman, who is studying in Vienna, also loves Pauli but realizes that his friend Carl has first place in her affections. Fritz Vvfinkleman, 11 journalist, lives just across the hall with Mizzi Vifinlcleman, his wife, and Kurt their little son. Baruska, the maid in the Arnclt house, is a laughing Bohemian character. lan, Carl's friend and serf vant is in love with Baruska. After Carl's play is accepted he and Pauli plan to be married, At this time war is declared. Carl and Pauli have but a month of married happiness before Carl, Fritz, and ,lan are all called. Bruce goes back to England and takes Carl's play with him. Carl, Fritz and 'lan are all expected to return in March 1917. jan, who comes back at this time, tells of Carlls death. Carl's and Pauli's baby, whom Carl has never seen, is very ill and dies. Fritz, who has been gassed, returns but he is mentally unbalanced. In june 1919, the Professor, Mr. Behrend, Pauli and Bruce have just returned from the premiere showing of Carl's play The Enemy which is a great success. We leave our characters gazing into the future in which the whole world sees, and understands, and cries: No more hate! No more prejudice!! No more war!l! CLASS OF 1932 I ockson High School:
