D. MORTON Foreword The spirit of the Delphian of 1960 is not to be found in an ancient Greek temple, but in the classrooms, the lounges, and the walks of Jackson Junior College. This spirit may be recognized in the expressions of familiar faces and in the charm of campus scenes. The DELPHIAN staff sincerely hopes that this book will, in future years, serve to recall] the people and the meanings of the school year, 1959-1960. Institute Diviston Metallurgical Department The metallurgy laboratory of the Institute Divi- sion is one of the best of its kind in the state. The characteristics and properties of various metals are carefully examined. The metallurgy studies simu- lates on-the-job training for engineering students. Bill Barnes employs a specimen cutter for hardened steel. The specimen is mounted by Ken Salsbury. After the specimen has been mounted and pol- ished, Dave Danton checks the microstructure of the steel. Roger Merrill gingerly handles specimen in electric heat treating furnace; temperatures reach 2, 300 de- ; ) ; Above: The Brinnell tester is being used by grees Fahrenheit. : sk Larry Schramm for determining the hardness of annealed steel. Below: Mr. Howell explains the crystal structure of metals to interested student Institute Division Technical Department The technical department of the Institute Division instructs students in the tool engi- neering program in the use of expensive and | complicated equipment. Stress is placed on care and safety while the students learn the workings and theories behind the machines. Above: Jerry Dorr makes resistance calculation Below: Dave Dornton and Dick Chimelewski check VTUM (Vacuum Tube Voltmeter) Calibration. Below: Mr. Barbour looks on while Art Sayers locates a defective com- ponent part, Above: Don Schafer and Dick Dressell are being introduced to the finer points of an oscillioscope. Above: Dick Chimelewski, Art Sayers, and Jerry Dorr are shown studying the AC-DC power output supply. Below: Mr. Barbour illustrates the principle of parallel resistances. Above: Nettie Fair and Donna Pickell putting up surgical packs; Louise Job and Therese Sarafin sterilizing needles. Below: Helen Long and Betty Rohloff show baby to proud father for the first time. Above: Sister Mary Jose- phine instructs Susan Hart and Lorraine Brown in care of diminutive but irate patient. Nursing Program Above: Dr. Richard Waesihle and Dr. Ross Taylor discuss progress of case with patient while student nurses Irene Bry- ant and Sheryl Baldwin listen attentively. The Nursing program at J.J.C. involves a co-operative program between the college, Mercy Hospital, and Foote Hospital. The student nurses live at the nursing homes at the respective hospitals, take courses such as chemistry, English, and biology from J.J.C., and receive practical training at their hospitals. The climax to the program comes at Nurses Capping. Above: Nurses receive lecture on care of patients from Dr. Ted Dodenhoff. Left: A patient receives careful attention from Norma Hewell and Ann Netcher. In Dedication The 1960 Delphian is dedicated to MRS. GERALDINE TRAVIS. Mrs. Travis, then Miss Wadley, first became part of Jackson Junior College in 1948. She was the first full-time women's physical edu- cation instructor to be employed by this school. However, Mrs. Travis’ activities have involved much more than her physical education classes. She has served as Director of Student Affairs, Chairman of the Union Board, manager of Watershows, and, finally, as co-advisor of the Class of 1960. In many additional ways, Mrs. Travis has assisted and encouraged the students of J.J.C. Mrs. Travis is leaving the faculty to devote herself to her family, but her vitality and her sincere congeniality will be missed. Oca Pr Se acai WILLIAM N. The Panhellenic Cup Award has been tendered, this year, to Miss Barbara Fors. Miss Fors's services and honors are almost too numerous to list. She has been Secre- tary of the Student Commission for two se- mesters; Vice President of the Women's Club; Vice President of Phi Delta Sigma; Homecoming Queen; Black Friday Decora- tions Chairman; Watermelon Mixer Program Chairman; and member of the Sophomore Class Band Committee. Her poise and charm have won Miss Fors many campus honors, but her accomplish- ments suggest an even more luminous future. Men’s Union Award A special committee of the Men's Union organization each year considers candidates among sophomore men in regard to qualities of leadership, scholarship, and useful service. The most outstanding male sophomore is sub- sequently honored by the Men's Union Award. Winner of the 1960 Award is Mr. Jack Gillett. Mr. Gillett has served J.J.C. prin- cipally as a three-term member of the Stu- dent Commission. As President of the Stu- dent Commission, Mr. Gillett skillfully and diplomatically guided the affairs of student government. His continuing popularity among his fellow students can be demonstra- ted, moreover, by his election as Homecom- ing King. Mr. Gillett is also a member of the SNEA. Mr. Gillett's maturity and social grace should assure him an enviable future. ee ee eee Howard Adams John Adkins Larry Adkisson Linda Allen David Anderson Sharen Anderson Dean Applin Allen Arnoff Richard Ashley Gerald Babcock Charles Bacon Sandra Banach Shirley Banister Carol Bareis William Barnes Gail Bartkowski Gerald Becker Lora Beckwith Rodney Beckwith Sandra Behm OFFICERS: Bill Diekman, President Rosemary Ryan, Vice President Jerry Gutowski, Secretary Treasurer Janice Beilfuss Lynn Beiswinger David Beitelschies Denise Belcher Bonnie Bertrand Don Blink Tom Bliss Mary Ann Boettner Mary Brannon Joanne Brown Joel Brown Lorraine Brown Sally Brown John Bruske John Bullinger Howard Bush James Bush Susan Butow Richard Campbell Christopher Cantine Hal Carothers Curtis Carpenter Merna Cassidy Darryl Chatfield James Chmielewski Richard Chmielewski Terry Chmielewski Erwin Chrapek Norman Chropowicz Ruth Ann Churchill Besita Clark Marilyn Clifton Pamela Clifton Beverly Clynn Susie Coak Linda Coburn Ted Collins Melvin Comeau Mary Ann Conway David Cornwell Mary Coutchie Carole Cox Barbara Crafton ® Maurice Crawford Kay Crowl Margaret Crowle : JoAnn Crowley Jerry Crunk Kirk Cutler Doug Dailey JoEllen Damaron Mary Ann Damjanac Richard Danby Charles Davis Larry Deck Mary Lou Dempski Max de Volder Bill Diekman Marlon Divine Anne Dodge Frank Dodge Alice Dolde Dave Donaldson Jerry Door Dave Dornton Robert Drager Terry Drennan James Dwyer Lawrence Dziobak Ronald Eagan Salley Earley Everett Edwards, Jr. Dallas Ebert John Elliott Pat Elliott Virginia Elmer Bob Everetl Carol Fagerlund Nettie Fair Bill Farmer Joyce Farner Judy Fenner Pat Fike William Finton Jerry Fischer Sandra Fitch Duane Foster James Foster Stan Fracker Janice Frantz Duane Franzen Arthur French Pauline Freundl Keith Fullerton Elizabeth Futrell Susan Galligan Mary Gamin Larry Garrett Robert Garwood Jerry Gianella Elizabeth Gillett Tom Grace Peter Grams Jerry Grandon Bill Green Ben Grenevitch Jim Griswold Stanley Grundeman John Gutekunst Napoleon Gutierrez Jerry Gutowski Tom Gutowski Marilyn Gyles Janet Haehnle Betty Hagens David Hall Jirneth Halladay Mary Ellen Halle Robert Hardt Janet Harkins William Hope Dennis Howe Don Hoyte Albert Hull David Hunt Ralph Hutchins Marion Iwanicki Judy Jacobson Judy Jahnke Stanley Januszka Lindford Jaquith Louise Job Dave Johannides Kathy Johnson Richard Johnson Ruth Johnson Sharon Johnson Duane Jonasz Charlotte Jones Janet Jones Robert Harkness Rosemary Harrington Diane Harris Susan Hart Russ Harvey Gorton Hasbrook Florence Haskell Lynn Hecksel James Hendrickson James Hengstebeck Armand Herrera Sandy Herrington Gerald Herzos Melva Hester Theodore Hilleary William Hilliard Henry Hite Edwin Hockaday Fay Holland Lynn Holley Veronica Jones Dave Kasprzycki Dave Keefer James Keezer Pat Kelly | | | Ronald Kelly Tim Kelly Ray Kennedy William Kerr Walt Kerstetter Claudene Kime Catherine Kirk Pat Kleyn John Klingkamer John Knapp Paul Lahrke Jim Lammers Mike LaRa Rosanne LaRosa | Louis Kibler Carol Lavender ‘Betty Lawrence Sheldon Lawrence Tim Lebel Mary Ann Lee William Lewis Connie Lincoln Dick Locke Dennis Lodise Rocky Lodise Helen Long Susan Long Fred Lozowsky Dave Mahoney Frank Marriott Judy Marsh Mary Marshall Tom Martin Phyllis Mason Ed Mathein Prudy Milligan Wayne Mollitor Richard Morales Tom Morgan Judy Moseman Calvin Murdock Dave Murphy Terry Myers Dick Navarre John Neill Sandra Nelson Mary Ann Niecko John Niles Karol Noss Zora Novak Don Nowery Robert Oatley Valentina Olsen Gloria Omans Salley O'Neill William Mathes Robert Matthews Betty Mattice Janet Maule Richard May Michael McAuliffe “ George McCaslin Carol McClinton Sharon McCombs Janet McCoubrey Peggy McGarry Robert McGonegal Mary Medler Tom Mericle Roger Merrill John Messimer Terry Metz Marilyn Miller Sandra Miller Rohn Millican Giraldo Orlando Efrain Orta Dale Osborn Sandy Palmer Harold Parker Rick Paschack Ellen Peavy David Peebles Carol Pepper Sharon Perrine Carl Perry Donna Pickell Dick Plum Tom Post Sandra Prentice Harold Prissing Ivah Prissing Robert Putnam Charles Ramsey Kadhim Rassool Dick Rausch Bob Reason Bill Reed Gary Reed Roberta Repasz Manley Reynolds Margaret Reynolds Ray Rhoades Don Rhodes Elizabeth Richards Mary Richardson Charles Richmond Dorothy Rick Duane Riley Bob Rhinehart William Ring Lawrence Roark Nancy Rogers Betty Rohloff Jane Ross Richard Schulcz Connie Scoles Everette Scott Tom Scott Richard Shea Sharon Shilling Frank Shinn Gerald Shipley Richard Silcher Allen Slaker Carlene Slaymaker Sue Slater William Slowinski Dave Slusser Bruce Smith Marilyn Smith Sid Smith Ted Smith Lawrence Snow Linda Somers Robert Rowley Marlis Rhutz Gene Rutkowski Rosemary Ryan Karen Sadler John Sampson Paul Sanders Theresa Sarafin Larry Sargent Kathryn Satterelli Nick Satterelli Helen Sawyer Art Sayers Don Schafer Bob Scheele Deanna Schittenhelm Norma Schlee Catherine Schlenker Larry Schramm Lois Schroeder Douglas Spears R.
