P jill Mill KX it It i AWN ,tm- iw. lit . 4 at JC-M LATIN CLASSES The revival of high school Latin, after a signiHcant decrease in the 1970's, has received media attention in the last few years. In the summer of 1985 several parents were influential in Hnding a certified teacher to revive the Latin program at jackson Central-Merry. Fourteen stu- dents took Latin I that year. Now there are 75 students enrolled in Latin I and II. The Latin Club belongs to the National junior Classi- cal League and has participated in several activities this year. Students traveled to Knoxville for the 7th annual University of Tennessee Latin Day. Students also partici- pated in the Mid-South Latin Tournament in Memphis. The 1987 academic year culminated with the JC-M Ro- man Banquet and Toga Party. Several slci ts were present- ed and individual projects were on display at the banquet. 51 ooemr L e 139
