BASEBALL Starting in late February with pitching and catching drills, the 1979 baseball players began their season. Led by veterans .Jett Fleming and Ronnie Giddens, the boys looked forward to the season with high hopes. 1978 players lost to graduation were replaced by many sophomore hopefuls, among whom John Scott and Mike Gibbs were impressive. The team was again coached by Rusty Taylor who has brought JC-M's baseball program to many highpoints and thrilling victories.

Under the direction of Coach Don Newman, the highly experienced tennis teams looked to be one ot the most powerful in years. State-ranked junior Fran Spencer, once again captured the no. 1 position on the girls' team. Other standouts on the girls' team were Missy Davis and Anne Benton. Senior captain Franklin Murchison led the strong boys' team. Co-captain Bernard Black and Holland 6 Henton also did well in competition. Led by seniors Mike Martindale and Scott Crocker, the golf team expected another highly successful season. Junior Roger Murray showed a great deal of potential for future leadership. ,, f,,v ,.
