Enthusi- astic reporters made every effort to track down news items. attain needed photos. and present every aspect of life at JC-M. Thought-pro- voking editorials sparked much discussion and inter- est throughout the school. Advisor David Thurman instructed the staff in the fine art of producing the printed word alertly and responsibly. Mrs. Fran Sar- gent assisted the staff with the printing of the paper. Sabrina Comer, and Sid Scott. l54 X Activities DEBATE Preparation and competi- tion were the most impor- tant words in the vocabular- ies of the Debate Team. These students participated in events throughout the area. Sabrina Comer, Kathy Whitehead. Darryl Mont- gomery and Sid Scott repre- sented .IC-M in the Green- brier QTNJ Tournament in November. They along with Marvis Hicks. .lunnie Springfield, Ronald Bass. and James Long competed in the Lambuth Fine Arts Tournament in February. All district and state events were sponsored by the Ten- nessee State Speech and Drama League of which JC- M is a member. The Debate Team was coached by Mrs. Sue Long. BAND The award-winning JC- M band continued to bring home the honors with par- ticipation in contests and festivals throughout the area. Long hours of practice were required to produce the outstanding field show routine seen during football season. Winter months were taken up with rehearsal for the concert season. Stage band members spent many evening hours at JC-M to prepare for its annual con- cert. Many of the band members again were selected to the All-West and All-State bands. a compli- ment to them and band instructor Bill Watson. 156 X Activities
