Coincidental with the training of fine minds, the training of strong bodies takes a high position at Jackson Central High School. The development of body co-ordination, the increase of stamina, the will to win, and the character of fine sportsmanship, play the starring roles in the Physical Education Department headed by Mr. Britton--boys, and Mrs. Perry--girls. In connection with the physical education program, health is re- quired of the second-semester sopho- mores. Stressing personal hygiene and human anatomy, health is taught by Mr. Britton and Mrs. G. Day.

Spanish The study of any foreign language continu ally brings to light many interesting facts about your own language. In particular, the study of a Romance language, such as Span- ish, shows the origination of several of the niceties of everyday speech. Below, Mrs. Wayrnire helps Pat Kerfoot through one of the many pitfalls which await the beginning Spanish student. Latin Words, along with their use and formation by the Romans, provide a solid front for study in the Latin class. With two years of Latin offered, a student can greatly enlarge his knowledge of our present language by the study of one of its main proctors an bene- factors, Latin. Above, Mrs. Dunn leads her class through some necessary drill on the long road to the mastery of Latin. English Success in many careers depends almost entirely on a person's grasp and usage of the En lish language. Keeping ghis in mind, the English Department has as its main goal the expanding control o English by the students of Jackson Central Hi h School Above Mrs E - ' - Recobs relays some impor- tant information concern- ing sentence usage and structure, while Mrs. Wise- man, below, assists her students through the maze of participles, gerunds, and infinitives. -12-
