JA-CE-HI 1964 Jackson Center High School Jackson Center, Ohio EDITOR - Christy Gerber CO-EDITOR - Mike Elliott Foreword We the Junior class of 1964 have published this annual in the hope that it will serve as a reminder of the many wonderful moments that we have spent at Jackson Cen- ter High School this year. We also hope that it will continue to bring enjoyment to you for years to come. The 1962-63 basketball season was a very successful season. The team ' s record was 9 wins and 3 losses in the league. They finished the regular campaign with 16 wins and 3 losses and had 24 wins and 4 losses after theii splendid tournament mark. The first tournament victory was in a game with Anna in the County Tournament. The second victory was in a game with Houston which gave the team the County championship. From the County Tournament the team moved onto the District Tournament where they first took on Southeastern and arose with a 75-54 victory. They were then eligible for the semi-finals where they were victorious over Piqua Catholic by a score of 77-69. The cham- pionship was the next goal which they took in a flaming 73-56 victory over the Riverside Pirates. From there it was to the Regional Tournament for our victorious team. There they beat Sabina in a nerve-racking 71-70 overtime. The Regional Championship title was waiting to be taken by them when they downed River Valley in a 39-36 victory. By this time the Community was behind the team and Mr. Gross all the way, and the boys were determined to take the coveted State Championship. It was off to Columbus on March 29, 1963, for the Tigers and their followers. There they met York, who was picked to take the championship. The determination of the boys was too great to be stopped by any- one, and the team downed York in a thrilling 44-40 victory. Here they were now, one rung from the top of the ladder. They were in the State Class A finals. The boys played a hard and long game with Dresden only to be beaten by two points by a last second shot. They then received the State Runner-up title. The team members were: Terry Haas, Chet Sosby, Don Ware, Marvin Foote, John Len- hart, Tom Leininger, Dave Schaub, Rick Klopfenstein, Tom Gies, Larry Metz, Gary Gerkey, Gary Shaffer, Tom Barbee, Neal Oakley. The managers were: Shelby Wilson, Bill Maloon, Larry Wical. The coach: Frederick Gross. It is to this team and coach that we proudly dedicate this 1964 annual. In Memory of ... A shocked and stricken world stands before the fact of death, that death brought to us through a tragically successful assault upon the life of the President of the United States. Our earliest disbelief has slowly given way to unprecedented sorrow as millions all over the world join us in lamenting a silence that can never again be broken and the absence of a smile that can never again be seen . . . . . . Now all of a sudden, he has been taken from us and I dare say we shall never see his like again. Many there are who will appropriately pay tribute to the President as a world figure, a tribute due him for his skill in political life and his devotion to public service. Many others will measure the wide interests of his mind, the swiftness of his resolution, the power of his persuasion, the efficiency of his action and the courage of his conviction . . . . . . the late President was even in death a young man - and he was proud of his youth. We can never forget the words with which he began his short term as President of the United States -- ' Let the word go forth, from this time and place, to friend and foe alike that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans - born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our American heritage ... Let every na- tion know . . . that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any handicap, support any friend, oppose any for to assure the survival and success of liberty. This much we pledge and more. ' All that the young President promised in these words, he delivered before his assassi- nation. He has written in unforgettable language his own epitaph. Cardinal Cushing ' V 1 - 2 administration Superintendent MR. CHARLES FOSTER This is Mr. Foster ' s first year here at Jack- son Center High School. In league games they won 4 and lost 8 finishing in fifth place. Although this year ' s record is not as good as it was last year, we feel that the team did well. Many of the games lost were only by a few points and some in overtime. The entire school is proud of them and wish them the best of luck in the future years.
