Senior Class History In 1947, forty-six little rockets were launched into space by the combined efforts of Miss Fegley, Miss Shively, Mrs. Pugh, Nlrs. Phaddt, and Mrs. Ludwig. Roddy Rose and Mary Lou Young were king and queen of the May Day Play. Mrs. Ellis and Mrs. High helped us on our second plateau. Our group was still so large that it had to be divided again. It seems that this was the year that Joyce Elliott' pulled the monkey off the light cord. On our third plateau, as we didn't know too much yet about space travel, we pulled the wrong lever which produced daily paddlings. The paddle was controlled by Mrs. Sutton, but some seemed to escape by way of Mrs. Scarberry. On our fourth plateau, we lost one of our favorite classmates, Timothy Herdon, because of illness. Mrs. Stahler, our instructor, had lively travel companions. It seems there was a certain ordeal about fingernail polish. What about this Roddy and Mary Ruth? On this plateau, Mary Ruth got to be an expert on tying strings, since she tied Robert Counts to his seat quite often. Mrs. Heintz was our instructor on the fifth plateau. Our favorite pastime this year seemed to be playing ring up. On our sixth plateau, Mrs. McGowan was our instructor. Miss Heater helped us to learn to play flutophones. At our Valentine party, we presented Mrs. McGowan with a leather book satchel, which she still carries. At the end of our sixth year, we took inventory of the students in our class, and found that we had lost 33 during the lst six grades. We gained 20 in this time. In 1953, as we entered the seventh grade, we were 38 in number. We were helped along in this plateau by Mrs. Forsythe. The eighth grade initiated us at a Halloween party given in our honor. Kay Wildermuth was a cheerleader and the boys in our class that helped to win the county tournament were Roddy Rose, Claude Heintz, Jim Maxwell, and Ronald Shoffner. In this class Harold Baker and Barbara Myers joined us in our travels but both left us again along with Vera Bevans, Vivian Bevans , and Karen Dearbaugh. The instructor for the eighth plateau of our journey was Mr. Helmlinger. This year we gave a play entitled Who Killed Ann Gage? Our cheerleaders were Kay Wildermuth, Karen Kay Judy, Mary Lou Young, and Phyllis Kemp. The Junior High basketball team won second place in the county tournament this year. Those on the team were Roddy Rose, Claude Heintz, Daniel Sprague, Philip Lenhart, Jim Maxwell, and Harold Fergus. Donald Swiger was their manager. Donald Burke, Joe Reading, and Philip Lenhart joined us in this year and Donald Burke, Carl Case, Nick Charles, William Shultz, Bob Counts, Glenn Shoffner, Ronald Shoffner and Saundra Myers left us . In our Freshman year, we caught a glimpse of our goal, the moon. This was a challenge to travel on to our goal. Mr. Beattie was our instructor this year. Those on the Girls' Basketball Team were Kay Wildermuth, Karen Judy, and Phyllis Kemp. Kay Wildermuth was a cheerleader and those who represented our class on the basketball team were Roddy Rose, Claude Heintz, Jim Maxwell, and Harold Fergus. Margaret Shady was Fresh- man attendant for the Homecoming game with Fairlawn. Rod Rose, Evelyn Hutflies and Mary Lou Young represent- ed our class at Oxford. For our assembly program we presented the play Who's Afraid? Carol Michael joined us this year, but left again before we reached our next plateau. Ronald Brannan, Janet Case and Evelyn Hutflies also left us this year. In 1956-57 , we, as Sophomores, were helped along by Mr. Smith. This year found Ann Jackson, Karen Judy, and Kay Wildermuth as cheerleaders, and Roddy Rose, Jim Maxwell, and Harold Fergus on the basketball team. Roddy Rose and Claude Heintz were on the baseball team. Judy Lott, Mary Ruth Grubbs, Mary Miars, Roderic Rose, and Margaret Shady represented our class at Oxford this year. Ann Jackson, Alice Van Horn, Evelyn Rickert, and William Shultz joined us on our journey and Bob Counts, Charles Kossel, Joe Reading, and Evelyn Rickert left us. Ann Jackson was our attendant for the Homecoming game. In 1957-58, we had three additions to our class: Lois Kysenceder, Wilma Shroyer, and Meriam Zwiebel. Mr. Gross was our instructor. This was a very busy year. Our Junior Class play was entitled Now You're Talking. We got our class rings this year, which we thought were very unique. This year, we also published the Yearbook. For the Prom, we worked very hard to make it a big success. Our theme was Stairway To The Stars. The cheerleaders were Kay Wildermuth and Ann Jackson. Roddy Rose was on the basketball team. In our Senior year, the excitement was continual as we were on the last plateau and May 26, 1959, was set as the great day when we would hit the moon. Our officers were Kay Wildermuth, president: Roddy Rose, vice- presidentp Ann Jackson, secretary: and Mary Ruth Grubbs, treasurer. Our S2 , 025 magazine subscription drive was a great success.
