Mary, our cook, has been with us since l935. She has offered her services for preparing special activities such as the Awards Banquet and the Jr.-Sr. Banquet. At Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving she always serves especially delicious meals. Philip, our janitor, has been with us since 1928. He has to get up bright and early to come to school to build the fire. He stays here to sweep and clean long after we have gone home. To you, Mary and Philip, we dedicate this edition of the Ja Ce Hi. 2 h .fupaubmiendeni T. L. Johnson I . t NZ . C w-'7 2nd Row: T. Johnson, G. Smith, F. Gross, D. Holt, R. Helmlinger. lst Row: H. We feel as if we should take this time to recall some of these important events in the One and Only 1956 Senior Class History of Jackson Center High School. On September 5, 1944, thirty-six small boys and girls landed in the first grade under the direction of Nts. Maude Griffith only to discover the new and different ways of school life. They were: Verda Barnes, Bill Baughman, Mark Boyer, Mary Brun, James Buchanan, Roger Case, Jack Davis, David Detrick, William Detrick, Gary Elliott, Jacquelyn Elliott, Gloria Fox, Robert Grubbs, Marilyn l'htch, Rose l'lagedorn, Janet Leininger, Jerry Lochard, Hugh Marvin, Thelma Myers, Richard Protsman, Twyla Regula, Delores Russell, Lynn Sailor, Carol Seitz, Mary Sherer, Jean Snider, Larry Steenrod, Eugene Swiger, Jack Tidd, Larry Wenner, Donald Westervelt, and Jerry Zwiebel. After exploring the first grade where Private-Mrs. Irene Shoemaker and Private-Mrs. Minnie Ellis were our instructors. Gaining territory and knowledge, we entered into Mrs. Bernadine Heintz's battlefield. Here Pat l'lammye from DeGraff ioined our battalion. After struggling through the third grade, we tramped on to the fourth under the direction of Sergeant- Mfs. Crystal Stahler. Hearing of our success, we were ioined by Donald Howell, Bill Hutflies, Deryl Oglesbee, Howard Oglesbee, Jim Brown, and Dave Smith. We now had 47 in our army. With the enemy close behind, we moved on to the fifth grade where Ms. Bernadine Heintz once more became our commander-in-chief. One event in this class that we all remember is the day we gave our lndian Pow Wow. Colonel Mabel NlcGown was over us in the sixth grade. A few pupils dropped out, leaving us 44. Marching on we came to theseventh grade which was in the new building. Maior Margaret Forsythe wcs our military leader. Those who ioined us were Alvin and Calvin Nloore, larry Oliver, and Susie York. ln the eighth grade our navy became so large that it had to be divided. Miss Ulmer had the waves lgirlsi and Miss l'leater had the sailors lboysl. Sailors Edward Shady, Jack Brown, and Darrel Symonds ioined our fleet and Bill Baughman transferred to Sidney. Twyla Regula, Nancy Heintz, Susie York, and Janet Leininger were iunior high cheerleaders this year. ln the freshman year, we were still divided only this year Mr. Cooperrider and Nts. Fullerton were our overseers. Robert Grubbs, James Buchanan, and Jeanie Snider were on the Scholarship Team this year. Dick Miller, Howard Oglesbee, and Deryl Oglesbee were on the basketball squad. David Detrick and Jack Brown were members of the track team. Nr. Glen Smith was chief pilot of our air force in the sophomore year. This year we presented the play entitled The Pampered Darling . Janet Leininger, Twyla Regula, and Bob Grubbs were on the Scholarship Team. Deryl Oglesbee and Howard Oglesbee, Dick Miller, and David Detrick were members of the basketball squad. Those on the track team were Deryl Oglesbee, Howard Oglesbee, Darrel Symonck, Edward Shady, Jack Brown, Jerry lochard and David Smith. Twyla Regula was a high school cheerleader and Dick Miller and Janet Lein- inger were sophomore attendants for a school dance. The battle nearly over, we reached the junior year only to find we had many plans and maneuvers to yet accomplish. Lieutenant Frederick Gross was our sponsor. This year we planned and sponsored the Junior-Senior Prom. Our theme was l'lawaiian Cruise , which was carried out to the fullest extent. The 1955 school annual was published this year with Janet Leininger as editor and Jeanie Snider as co- editor. The following boys were on the track team: Jerry lochard, Jack Brown, Dick Miller, David Detrick and Darrel Symonds. Those on the basketball team were: Dick Miller, Dave Detrick, Darrel Symonds, Jack Brown, Jack Tidd, larry Steenrod, Jim Brown, and Dick Protsman. ll .Yeniot 614.45 lfistozy The Scholarship Team was made up of Twyla Regula, Bob Grubbs, and Bill Hutflies. Twyla Regula was one of the high school cheerleaders. The iunior class presented the play, The More The Merrier , this year also. Now as we reached the senior year under the direction of General Donald L. Holt, we all know it would be only months until we left this twelve years of hard work and battle. This year we lost Marcia Gross, Roger Case, and Deryl Oglesbee. Members of the varsity boys' basketball team were: David Detrick, Dick Miller, Jack Brown, l.arry Steenrod, and Darrel Symonds. Yes, here we are, at the end, on the shore, Considering our motto so true, Tonight We Sail, Where Shall We Anchorl And looking out into the blue. And here we wonder, cs we stand on the post, How far does our destiny lie, Where is this lsland of Success Which we hope to reach by and by? Our dear old colors of blue and white, As they stand out from the mast, Will help to guide us on our way, With our knowledge and experience of the past Then we step into our ship of Courage, With our flag of Knowledge waving high, As we cling to our diploma's, We turn to wave and say good-by. But when we turn to do this task, There faces us our past 'twelve years, With all our parents, teachers, and classmates, All our hardships, toils and fears. And as we look back into these happy scenes, We can hardly hold our tears, To think that all of us twenty-seven seniors, Hove cherished together these years. Our last few words we wish to say, N our ship moves away from land, Are 'Thanks to ou, dear teachers and arents, Y P Making possible a trip well planned. Our class as a whole, will miss all of you, For we love our dear Jackson High And for now we want to say---So-Long, But never, never---Good-By. So bid us farewell m we move out in life, As you in turn must have taken, For we are not out at sea, by ourselves all alone, But together, the world to awaken. Mary Sherer Carolyn Helmlinger ptopheciu let's imagine that it is ten years from tonight. The senior class of '56 is having a ban- quet at the Jackson Center High School. The main topic of conversation at this table is about the rocket to the moon that Bob Grubbs and Bill Hutflies is working on. They tell me that Jim Brown has started from the bottom and worked himself up to president of the Goodyear Tire Corporation. Lynn Sailor, who is president of the Sailor Greenhouse Corporation, has iust been elected mayor of Jackson Center. Donald Howell has been kept very busy with his clock industry at Jackson Center. Delores has spent the last two years as nurse at the American EmbC1SSy in Paris. Janet Leininger has become editor of the New York Times because of her experience from working on the school paper. Carolyn Helmlinger has now taken on a permanent iob of baby sitting. Darrel Symonds is now the Hot Rod Champion of Ohio. Nancy Heintz is enioying teaching on an Indian reservation. David Smith is now head of his own construction company which is now working in Africa. How could all this be possible? There is only one way--by imagination.
