g4W02mf MES SAGE Dear Students: Each year I am delighted with this opportunity to greet each of you and to try to leave some thought that I hope will cause you to pause and reflect for a moment about the wonderful life that is yours. It is my convic- tion that your school days can be among the most happy and im- portant experiences of your life and that every one of you can make a success of your school years and of some area of adult life if you so desire and are willing to work at it. But I can offer no magic formula for you to follow. Instead, I ask you to think of school as a challenge. .i ' Q You have already learned much, but learning is a dynamic process which gains momentum as it goes along, and the more you learn how to learn, the more you can learn. Probably the most important thing the school has done is to teach you how to learn. You will find this one of your most valuable assets in the years to come. So you will be Hin schooln as long as you live. It is up to you how much you will gain and how mature you will become. We who have been privileged to help guide your destiny have been aware of our profound respon- sibility and have tried to help you mature intellectually, morally, and so- cially. We hope you have worked out a satisfactory philosophy of life and that you have established a set of principles to live by and a set of perma- nent values to live for. You must learn to meet adequately all experiences- pleasant and unpleasant, good and bad, successful and unsuccessful. You must be prepared to face a changing world which will be filled tith new opportun- ities to learn. You must develop an attitude of self-confidence in your ability to adjust to new situations. You must look forward to the future with anticipation and with a sense of challenge. Life will not be different when you leave school. You have already had suc- cesses and disappointments, and they have been as real as anything you will face in the future. There will be many sources of strength for you - knowledge, re- ligious faith, help and encouragement from friends and relatives. Use every 'resource available to help maintain your perspective, confidence, and zest for living. Life can be rich for you, and if you leave high school able to think straighter, act more wisely, and able to shoulder your share of responsibility, you will have met the challenge of your school days. My best to each of-you. May you achieve the personal goals that I trust you are setting. Your friend, J B. Sharp Superintendent of Schools
