Barber is equally proud of its rural students who compose a large segment of the school ' s pop¬ ulation and its city students who live within walking distance of die school. The two groups from far and near have a very pleasant and cooperative working attitude toward each other. 7mJ e (jo me Jrom Jc ar . 2 •VI ll 1 • m FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION Our teachers show us the way to use our hands wisely, energetically, and obediently. We use our hands wisely when we are in class, ener¬ getically when we are at leisure, and obediently when we are sub¬ mitting to instructions. Page 8 CLASSES The boys and girls with whom we have played, and worked are no longer boys and girls, but young men and women - the future citizens of America. Page 16 ORGANIZATION - ACTIVITIES By participating in various activities under the guiding hands of our advisors, we learn to function in many organizations that result in well rounded individuals. Page 22 STUDENTS Students enrolled in our school find the experience stimulating and opportuned. In addition to a thorough study of our academic course, the students learn the techniques of leading, being lead, and wanting to lead. Page 44 ATHLETICS The pep and loyalty of the crowd spark the hard-hitting, alert boys to many flashing victories. Enthusiasm, determination, loyalty, stamina- all contribute to a successful 1961-62 season. BOOKER J J nncipafs JKessacje Drifting or paddling? What are you doing as you move into the future? That is a paramount question to be faced by each student regardless of classification, but more especially by those of you who are seniors. As days follow days, it is inevitable that you will move into an un¬ known future ' . The fact that it is unknown need not mean it is fore¬ boding. If you are to be able to truly voice the sentiments of the poet who claimed he was the Master of His Fate and the Captain of His Soul, you must surely not drift into the future. It is widely recognized that you should not leave your future to chance or to the whims of Lady Luck. You should be giving serious thought to where you are going and how you are going to get there. Today ' s soci¬ ety has a place for him who is moving purposefully. The fellow who is paddling has many choices. He can move upstream, across stream, or in any direction he desires. Whereas, one who is drifting has only one course, downstream, at the mercies of all the elements of the enviroment. I hope that the fact that you have remained in school to further your education can be accepted as irrefutable evidence that you have your paddles in hand and are rowing vigorously toward your chosen goal. On the basis of this, I feel that congratulations to you are in order. Permit me to be among the first to extend them to you. Mrs. R. M. Roundtree ' s busy hands keep the princi¬ pal ' s records in immaculate order. It is with deep regret that we take leave of our high school companions. It is our hope that the under¬ classmen who are following in our wake will know the joys of achievement and advancement that we have known. The seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen are all part of John Thomas Barber High School and therefore we are all a part of each other. While this is, no doubt, true of all schools, we can not help but feel that it is much more so at Barber than at most. These organizations are not merely a part of the school, but a part of our lives. Through our tenure here at Barb¬ er, they become a part of us which we shall carry forth and cherish through all our days. 22 23 d Stuc ent Gounctl (L. to R.): Mr. W. G. Jones, advisor, inspects the completed dummy of the 1962 Yearbook, the Warrior, the co-edi¬ tors, Mary Collins and Ozie Faison, smile happily. The advisors and co-editors of the 1962 Warrior wish to express their sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to the compilation of this annual. We especially wish to thank the faculty, student body, organizations, and advertisers for their special efforts. Without the cooperation of the faculty and the encouragement of individual home¬ rooms to participate in photography for this annual, this publication could not have been possible. We wish to say many thanks to the business firms for the financial support through advertisements and to the patrons who aided in our effort. I hope that your loyalty to us will be rewarded by an increased volume of business for the firms we advertised, and a great amount of good will for every patron listed. We wish for you the comforting peace of mind that comes from knowing that you have been a part of a worthy cause. Again we wish to express our hearty thanks to everyone who has helped to make the 1962 Warrior a success. 88 “Patrons Mrs. Sarah Adams Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Allen Mr. and Mrs. Robert Allen Mr. A.
