Coach Hill Ruchinger commented that he was very disappoint- ed with the team's season. Although the girls came a long way since the heginning ol' the season. they were still making errors and giying away games that they shouldn't hayef' A senior on the varsity team. Denise Dohuck. displayed quality and spirit throughout the season. Juniors Sue -lansky and 'lill llewandowski. stars ot' the junior varsity team. also assisted the varsity in seyeral games. l l l Sophomore wrestlers grapple with apath A lack of student. participation can hamper any sport. and in 1979 it seemed that wrestling was one of' the sports hardest hit. On the sophomore level turnout was so low that several Weight levels had to he forfeited because there were no grapplers to fill them. The varsity team Suff'ered not only from apathy hut also from inexperience. Our team worked hard, but a lot ol' other teams had age and size on us, explained Matman Don Stevens. Coach Don Matheny was nonetheless pleased with the performance his group gave. Many of the wrestlers did well for their first year on the varsity team. he commenta ed. Top achievers for the Falcons were Varsity Captain Steve Pacentine. who placed first in the district and was a sectional qualifier, and Greg Blazek, a Des Plaines Valley all conference wrestler. with a perfect record of eight wins and no losses in the 98 pound class.
