Varsity, JV bowlers roll a winning year Although many of Morton VVest's sports teams found 1979 to he a year of frustrating defeats, the girls, bowling teams enjoyed victories. The varsity team ended their winning season with an overall record of ten wins and two losses. A highlight of the season was the Christmas tournament held in Dolton, Illinois, where the varsity team tied for eighth place. ln district competition the team ended the season in a healthy second place. Vonnie Sims. the varsity howler with the highest average, brought additional honors to the team hy winning two medals. one tor high series and another for high game. Sharon Kuras and Joyce Hodan. along with Captain Dee llee Sunter. stood out in varsity performance. The junior varsity team also bowled a great season with an overall record ot' eleven wins and only one loss. Top JY howler Cathy Quinlan led her team- mates with the highest howling average. Inex erience, injuries hinder JV's season Ilespite the losses of the first three games of the season, the varsity haskethall team tied for fifth place with an overall record of seven wins and eleven losses. The girls worked hard to attain their aehieved goals, said Coach Terry Kulp. The team made the regional finals and then lost to Hinsdale South at the state tournament for the second year in a row. Several workshops were offered to the team this year. The entire team competed in the Proviso East Summer League. and Laura Grisafe. Denise llohueli, Sharon Cizek, and Sue Jansky attended the Indiana Hoosier Camp. Besides the lack of experience on the dominantly freshman JV team, two main players, Sharon Cizek and Sue Jansky, were out part of the season with injuries, According to Coach Ruth Hapae.
