Bands, orchestra make difference in MD X Rx - far -4.32 it X Tag Tx ,N :,h . ,.1: I have been playing violin for seven years, and the music we play for concerts is really challenging, said Barbara Kapsa, an orchestra member. Music filled the minds of many Morton West' students. The proof was a wide range of talented musicians performing in band and orchestra. MD, as the Music Depart- ment's patrons affectionately refer to it, consisted of a variety of perform- ing units. The marching band parad- ed at homecoming and during football halftimes. The concert band consist- ed of top students selected according to their ability. Both West and East musicians participated in the district-wide orchestra. They per- formed in concert and in the pit orchestra for the fall musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. 1 6 MUSIC - BAND, ORCHESTRA 43

.W decade of winning floats For the tenth year in a row, Music Club again came up with a first place. float for the homecoming parade. Its circus calliope came into existence thanks to money raised by candy sales and the hard working efforts of Music Club's members. Some of the members also attended a Music Camp at North Central College in Naperville. For one week they practiced a staggering six hours a day. The result of their labor was a concert in which they performed their newly-mastered pieces. The Aeolian, Freshman Mixed, and Dorian Choirs blended harmon- ious voices and sang in Christmas and spring concerts. The program con- 4 , sisted of numbers from the different groups and ended with a grand finale. While singing for the student body during assemblies, the choral groups actually rehearsed for their shows. These not only benefited the singers but turned into free shows for the student body. Belles and Beaus, consisting of about thirty members, sang in school concerts and also for civic groups and churches. Mr. James Chiado, director of Belles and Beaus, commented, The group provides students with an opportunity to excel in singing a variety of music. Debbie Tymczuk readily agreed, It gives us a chance to get together and work at doing it right. lj Wielding the first place cup, Annalyn Chalabala and Cindy McDonald rejoice at Music Club's float victory. 25 After a performance at Clyde Savings, Belles and Beaus enjoy a refreshing treat. 35 In the earliest stage of creating their floats, Music Club members transform tissue paper into colorful flowers. 45 Contributing to the choral concert, Belles and Beaus chime with Christmas spirit.
