ERT ARES Of all the freedoms that people value, the freedom to express their artistic talents is perhaps one of the most precious. Artistic expression flourished at West as students danced, painted, sang, and acted throughout the year. The Physical Education Department provided an artistic outlet by making a modern dance course available to all interest- ed students. In Fine Arts, jewelry and pottery classes topped the list of favorite courses taken by students who felt the need to express their feelings through the mediums of paint, metal, or clay. Another outlet for expression could be found in photography. Although many con- sider the photograph to be an artificial art form, students who had little aptitude for drawing produced startingly beautiful effects through this expanding medium. In Language Arts Morton stude.nts found, in classes and after school productions, a medium of artistic expression. Participants memorized lines and fashioned costumes for such produc- tions as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and other dramatic works. For the students at Morton West, all their efforts made through art were advances toward the freedom which people will always hold dear. ll Carefully filing a piece of metal, Kim Nepras uses her expertise to create an original piece of jewelry. 22 In a scene from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Steve Underwood dazzles his audience with a song and dance routine. 31 Examining a strip of negatives, Photographer Tim Capua searches for the shot which best captures his subject. 45 A special Shakespear- ean assembly utilizes classic drama to educate and to encourage self-expression. 51 In a show of versatility, Becky Kessel acts in Morton College's production of Godspell. Blubs honor athletic abilities by admission T dow 4 SPORTS ACHIEVEMENT - The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat is a much-used but adequate summation of the exper- iences of Morton's many athletes. Although not required to participate, students took on the added practice, pressure, and endurance to make a name for themselves and for their school. This undertaking didn't go unrewarded, however, for many students earned awards plus respect from their teammates and friends because of their athletic abilities. One such distinction awarded to outstanding athletes was admission into the M-Club or Varsity Club. M-Club members promoted ath- letic interest by sponsoring a 'rec night' consisting of an open pool and free-play basketball and volleyball. The annual M-Club versus- faculty basketball game gave students the chance to root for their favorite players and teachers. Although the faculty trounced M-Club, all agreed it was a fun-filled game. The Girls' Varsity Club honored our gridmen by hosting a football banquet and also provided the baked goods at swim and basketball meets. lb Searching for an opening in the faculty defense, Mike Willett prepares a pass during the M-Club-faculty basketball game. 25 Exhausted after a grueling race, All-State Champion Lou Kammerer checks the clock for his time. 35 The strength required to get up proves to be unattainable for Greg Krucek after a trying session at the high jump bar. -U After teaming for the game-winning touch- n, Keith Borzym and Don Dunne rejoice.
