E fs Vw V ,f.a if 2 ifff iwt if Activity in the hallways rapidly diminished as the 2:20 bell signalled the end of another academic day. Crowds of students streamed out of classrooms and began a part of their lives commonly referred to as working. Reasons for taking on the added burden of a job were as varied as the students themselves. Saving for college, meeting new people, and taking an interest in used 'car ads headed the list for young workers. Students' views concerning their part-time jobs also revealed a wide range of opinions. Brookfield Zoo! I love it. lt's really nice because you're outside all summer and you get to meet a lot of good friends, bubbled Bonnie Kovacic. I enjoy my work because we work as friends, not employees, agreed Tom Kadolph, speaking of his job at the Copper Mug Restaurant. Expressing his point of view, Larry Baker remarked, It's not that great, but it's money. Freshman Mark Siviskas revealed his own optimistic view of the future by punning, No, I don't have a job but I'm working on it. No matter what their opinion, students all agreed that working was an essential part of asserting the independence and financial responsibility needed for their future endeavors. lj Fitting her pass key into a jammed lock, Locker Room Attendant Mary Regan assists two young patrons of the Berwyn Pool. 21 As the Christmas season approaches, Lynn Thurlwell helps out shoppers by wrapping their purchases. 3, Drawing customers into the store for its Cheese Festival, Larry Baker waves behind the counters at Swiss Colony. 45 Satisfied that his burger is done, Don 0'Brycki prepares to garnish it for a waiting Wag's customer. 55 Sue Schnulle waits for an order at the Brookfield Zoo Restaurant. ' rains vs. ' rawn Honor societies provide academic incentive I think there is too much emphasis on sports and not enough emphasis on the student's scholastic achievements, judged Celeste Kroll. While Morton's extensive sports program flourished, individual excel- lence achieved through study seemed sorely neglected. The Senior Honor Society corrected this matter -by extending membership to students earning a grade point average of 3.25 or above. Membership enabled students to list their participation in the honor society on college applica- tions and thus increase their chances of acceptance. Senior Honor Society also sponsored a banquet commend- ing outstanding scholars. The presen- tation of awards for outstanding junior boy and girl completed the evening. Not to be outdone, Junior Honor Society contributed its part toward recognizing the scholar. Members distributed honor scroll cards each semester to congratulate every student whose name appeared on the gold or silver honor rolls. The honor societies' focus on individual achievement sought to prove that strong individuals are the backbone of a healthy society. lj With a strong knowledge of architecture, Andy Wierzbicki hopes to place in the IIT Drawing and Design Competition for talented drafting students. 23 PTO Parents' Night employs Senior Honor Society Guide Lisa Saran to direct visitors to classrooms. 35 At a fund-raising Junior Honor Society bake sale, Dori Mysicka, Katherine Lacina, and Carmella Avery aid a customer in choosing a delicacy. if '30 ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT - JUNIOR AND SENIOR HONOR SOCIETIES gifts-if -.gn 'Ft .
