aytime trip, first of its kind for Ski Clu K I love to ski, and it's a lot of fun. Mike Hammond's explanation shows why he and many students like him joined the Ski Club. Instead of the usual after school trips, Ski Club arranged its first daytime outing. Members left early in the morning, spent the entire day on the slopes, and returned home late in the day. The daytime ski trip was practical in two ways. Besides providing more time on the slopes, it gave the club's old members the new sensation of daylight skiing. That's the purpose of the club, stated Carol Lacey. It provides students with a new exper- ience. Like their counterparts in athle- tics, members of the Chess and Backgammon Club competed in a Des Plaines Valley League tournament. This tournament distributed trophies for winning teams and for outstand- ing players. The Chess and Backgam- mon Club also sponsored an invita- tional in March in which neighboring schools participated. This sport brings out the meaning of the word challenge and tells you what strategy is, said Rosemary -Waligorski. CHESS AND BACKGAMMON CLUB- FRONT ROW: N. Chantha, M. Regan. SECOND ROW: J. After discussing all possibilities, members of the Swim Club chose Reminlsclng' as the theme of h 1978 swim show. Popular songs including Even N ow, The Way We Were, ' Those Were the Days, ' and of course, Reminiscing' were used to carry out the theme and accom pany swimmers' synchronized moves. The club's new adviser, Miss Sue Hoffman, offered useful guidance and saw that all aspects of the show went well. After 'Reminiscing's three- night run ended, the Swim Club continued to meet on land as a social organization. Karen Ljungberg, treasurer, commented, Everyone f 1 'l- . 24 l. - ,. ., -. -ggi -33715 eps -:s u , Q-ir, fig 'Reminiscing' makes waves -- te eff sk , ' ' , Q H 1 k , fi works together to make the show and other activities a success. Three days a week after school, members of the Boxing Club brought a different sort of action to the wrestling room. The physical contact of hitting someone under the supervision of a referee is fun, explained Tom Vinyard. Besides its recreational aspects, the art of boxing taught members to sharpen their reflexes and defend themselves. Adviser Mr. Craig Hodges shared his boxing knowledge with the club. lj Hoisted into the air by Joe Albanese, Karen Goering gracefully arches her back and beams for the audience. 21 Steadying themselves in a six man pyramid, Swim Club members show off the preci ion that made 'Reminiscing' a hit. 33 After receiving a smashing blow from Tom Vinyard, Gene Scala attempts to recover his balance and return a similar jab during a Boxing Club sparring session.
