Track Aids run marathon smoothly Working at Berwyn's annual Houby Parade, West's Track Aids participated in organizing the Houby Run down Cermak Road. The girls passed out numbers and t-shirts before the race and afterwards tallied scores and places. In this way Track Aids not only gave a needed helping hand at school meets but also exhibited their community aware- ness. One of the largest of the sport aid groups, the Swim Maids, performed a vitayservice. The girls held the responsibility of timing all girls' and boys' swim meets. Their times were then used to double check those registered by the poolside electronic scoreboard. These aid groups and other service-oriented clubs, as explained by Wrestling Aid Lori Boyd, Keep up school spirit, aid coaches, and at the same time provide fun. TRACK AIDS-FRONT ROW: K. Venzon, M. 9009 9905990096 BUGS F Whenever the weather permit- ted, and sometimes when it didn't, students -at Morton West combined pleasure with exercise as they participated in a multitude of unorganized sports. Dedicated net- men, taking out their frustrations on an innocent looking fuzz-covered ball, jammed the tennis courts to capacity. Football enthusiasts played out their aggressions in nearby parks and parking lots in games which while they weren't the Super Bowl were still far from boring. The sport of running, lately known as jogging, was another favorite pastime for health fans. Students could be seen at crazy times and in all kinds of weather running their Adidas off. The newly-popular sport of racquet- ball presented a chance to show off students' athletic prowess. This fast-paced game of agility, action, and concentration put a whole new dimension on ball-oriented games and offered students a chance to participate in a sport that up until recently only the wealthy could enjoy. Many youth centers joined up with well-equipped racquet clubs to provide interested teens with good instruction at a nominal fee. No matter what the sport, however, Morton students sweated as they found fun and good health. lj Joining exercise with the fun of a sport, students join in an informal game of touch football. 25 Eying the ball, Kathy Peters plans a blistering backhand to her opponent. 33 Taking advantage of a free day, West students hit the trail for a little horsing around. 41 For the armchair athlete electronic football provides a challenging substitute for the real thing. 55 With knees bent for balance, Frank Yuen attempts a tricky Frisbee catch. 22 SPORTING LIFE
