Morton's Deans Initiate New Tardiness Program This year, the deans adopted a new policy on tardiness and truancy. They dropped the system of detentions because they felt it wasn't accomplishing their main goals. The new policy gives more responsibility to the student and his parents. It differs from the old system in that the student is warned that the sixth time that he is tardy for a class, he will be suspended and a conference with his parents will be necessary. The fourth time a student is truant, he will drop the course with a failing grade. The deans com- mented, We are trying to prepare the students for adult life.
