Industrial Arts Prepares Students for Vocations By adding courses in architectural render- ing and modelbuilding, cooperative education, and vocational food service, the Industrial Arts curriculum expanded. Morton East previously offered vocational food service, but this marked the first year that West has offered it. Students, however, took the two-hour course at the East building. Mr. J. Hamilton, teacher of architec- tural rendering and modelbuilding, claimed that the class's aim was to help students to prepare for the career of their choice from architecture to carpentry. In cooperative education, students took jobs related to the course. The students split their school day between school work and on-the-job training. The department purchased an offset press for use in the graphic arts program. In his electricity class, Robert Ryan tabove, leftj ex- periments with the voltage of a homemade battery. George Rezabek Qleftj waits for Andy Miculinich to finish using the sander so he can finish his project. In their vocational drafting class, Dave Bell and Jim Bailey Qaboveb work on constructing a model house.

Physical Education Staff Makes 'Trade' with East Morton West's Physical Education Depart- ment made an interesting trade this past year. When Mr. R. Vashinko assumed the posi- tion of Morton East's varsity football coach, Mr. J. Breck of East came to the West faculty. Boys' gym classes continued the use of the junior-senior elective system. The freshman and sophomore classes followed the activity schedule used in recent years. Girls also followed the an- nual schedule of activities for freshman year. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors chose from specialized classes in lifesaving, advanced swim- ming, modern dance, and leadership or took regular gym. The department organized adap- tive gym classes for those who were unable to engage in normal gym activities. 48 ACADEMICS
