Dolezal and Kuchan Win, Become District Champs Varsity wrestling ended the season with one win and six losses in the DesPlaines Valley Conference. Two seniors, Bill Kuchan and Jim Dolezal, showed outstanding wrestling abilities by winning district championships. Although the junior varsity squad had a bad year, Mr. J. Polz, their new coach, says the team should have some feeling of success because of their prepara- tion for the varsity. The sophomore team ended in second place with six wins and one loss. Showing great potential, Rich Stolz was named their most valuable wrestler. Under two new coaches, Mr. R. Kozurek and Mr. J. Swim Team Sends Two To Dive in State Meet Finishing another good season, the varsity swim team had six wins and four losses. An out- standing meet was the Morton East In- vitational, West placed first out of six schools. Keeping up a tradition of good divers, the swim team sent two boys to the IHSA State Meet, Dave Muth, who placed third at the dis- trict meet, and Mike Martin, who placed fourth in the district and was the first freshman ever to go to a state meet. While the sophomore team finished the season with seven wins and three losses, the freshman swimmers were DPVL champions. With an overall record of nine wins and two losses, the team was undefeated in their impressive league endeavor. During a freestyle event, Mike Nekolny fleftb comes up for a breath of air as he tights to finish first.
